I put together the following two pieces for a photoshoot and I really love how they came out.

Please note: the skull used for these pieces is a resin replica of a raccoon skull obtained at The Evolution Store (http://theevolutionstore.com/) I highly recommend you check them out (in person, preferably as their website prices seem to be... far higher)

I found these awesome glass cases in an oddjob/biglots type store in Miami, they're basically 8x10 cases that open up to a canvas back and come with pins, which leads me to believe they are for things like mounting butterflies and such. Rad.

I made the one on the left first and when my friend saw it he asked me to make him a corresponding one (right). I was going to bring the female one with me to NYC and leave the other with him in Fl but they compliment each other so well, I think it's a shame to break them up.

Debating on the various brands of dress forms to purchase, I thought why isn't there a discussion on which brands people prefer? Or even the pros and cons of perhaps making your own form (duct tape method for example) vs buying?  So I would like to ask all of you...

What type of dress form do YOU use? How do you like it and why did you choose it?

inquiring minds want to know... (and by minds I mean mind. Me.)

I found this amazing dyed cotton eyelet at Mood Fabric and decided I MUST have it. Add vintage pattern for skirt and voila! Pretty skirt that I shall now discredit by showing you poor poor pictures of...



It's a modified circle skirt, tried to demonstrate the fullness... probably should've just worn my crinoline.



It IS even, I'M even... unless my hips have been lying to me... I don't know what happened in this image. But this is what it's like laying sans petticoat.



a closeup of the box-pleats because they took me SO long to do (though a good portion of that was me trying out various kinds of pleats to see which would work best... but aside from that... took me a long time >_<).

Anyhowzin, it looks amazing underneath a corset or with a wide belt in contrasting color. I wore it to a recent event and wish I could show the whole get-up, alas my scanner refuses to comply. Oh well. Thanks for looking!

Finally sat down and worked out a more traditional blocking for wool extensions/falls. I'm pretty proud with how this one came out and hope to make many more this way (+ variations.)



My friend Nidia has short hair (barely chin length in front and much shorter in back). I had intended on making smaller wool pieces to be placed randomly towards the top of her head, but I ran out of time and so just added regular hair to ease the transition if you will... but I kind of like how it's just a cascade of "dreads" coming from the back of her head.







These falls are made from wool and wefts of human hair, sewn together onto "tracks" and then sewn along a piece of elastic. Add some wig clips (I seriously love wig clips. Perfect for any length and thickness of hair, and super easy to take on and off), and voila!

I also made some falls that lay flat on a person's head, mimicking a hair part, those I'll post later when I get it absolutely perfect. I'd like to also eventually try lace front wig-work, we'll see how that goes.

While looking for something crafty to do, I found some curly kanekelon (a popular kind of synthetic hair) in the bottom of a drawer. So, I figured I'd make me some extensions... voila!


The materials: one packet of wefted curly kanekelon, several packets of wig clips (LOVE wig clips), thread + needle (not shown)


some pieces after construction. I made 2 big and 2 small ones for strategic placement.


My actual hair, untouched by brush/flatiron/product... what? I just woke up at that point...


With the extensions... Ok, so this would admittedly be 10x better if my hair was black to match the extensions. Also if I took a curling iron to the rest of my hair... but hey, I was just playing with it.

I need to get some Human Hair and make better quality extensions (maybe even dye it to match my hair? or maybe I'll just dye my hair back to black... hmmm). Also, I want to try and block a fuller extension piece ala the Ken Paves/Jessica Simpson set. It's really quite interesting what they do, but I'm not about to spend 300+ for his/hers... I'll just make my own, thank you! Questions, comments, suggestions, please don't hesitate!

Yay, first post!

So I've been meaning to do a sculpting mod on a munny for awhile (if you don't know what a munny is, check the following: http://www.kidrobot.com/html/munny3/index.html)

Armed with some Sculpey and acrylic paint, I set to work.

Gave him a lil hoodie and a front pocket, since munny bellies always make me think of full hoodie pouches for some reason...

All in all I would say the sculpt is a success, especially for a first try using sculpey period (I used the boiling method too, which made me a little nervous, but I'm happy with the results and think for working with pre-formed vinyl it does nicely). I'm not too thrilled with the paint job, but meh... it just feels like it's missing something. any suggestions?
