Oh this is lovely!
I was really lucky to have an amazing primary school teacher who was hugely into art and crafts and she ran an afterschool club teaching lace. When I left primary school my lace cushion stayed in my mum's loft for several years until recently when I moved a lot of stuff from my mum's to my own flat. Possibly as a distraction from other more pressing things to do, I thought I'd have a play around with it again, and the strangest thing I found is that even though I hadn't touched a bobbin for about 13 years, I could still remember exactly what I was doing, it had clearly become ingrained!
Last weekend I went and visited my primary school teacher who now runs spinning, weaving and lacemaking classes in a lovely converted barn in the middle of the countryside, and was discussing lace with her, and she said she finds exactly the same thing, she won't do anything for years and can then pick up where she left off.
