I got the idea to make these necklaces from a show on Style network. They are so fun and look so nice!
Well, I was going to make a tute with pics, but my digital cam is doing something really strange and I can't transfer the pics from it to my computer- which I do everyday, so I'm not sure what is wrong.
Get 1 yard of fabric (because of the length you need... I used a long strip of fabric that was about 32 inches long) and measure how wide you need to cut it based on what you plan to put inside your necklace. I used 1" styrofoam balls, but I've heard of many different items - someone mentioned cotton balls earlier. I tried the cotton balls, but I had trouble making the cotton keep a rounded shape.
Cut your fabric strip (for 1" balls, I made my strip 4 1/2" wide to allow for my seam allowance) keep in mind that you will be sewing it inside out and then flipping it right side out before stuffing, and that you need to allow enough room to insert the balls.
Fold your strip lengthwise with right sides together and sew along the open edge.
Flip the fabric right side out (I used the handle of a wooden spoon).
Fold the strip in half so that you can locate the center.
Insert one ball and wiggle it down to the center area you determined. Now, make a knot on either side of the ball to secure it. Complete this step over and over until you reach your desired amount of balls. I used 9 balls for my necklace and 6 balls for my bracelet.
Once you have completed adding the balls, fold the remaining strips again and sew in place to create a finished edge.
