It's gorgeous.  I want it.  Badly.

People always say "oh, you must be able to save so much money sewing your own clothes."  Um, no, not all the time and especially not if you're going to make something nice out of good material and take the time to fit it right.  Couture ain't cheap, people, that's why we gave it a French name.  Wink

Glad you like it, tattooedcrafter, it was fun to do.  Velvet isn't really hard to embroider but when you push the needle through it knocks out some of the fiber so after a little while you're covered with little flecks of velvet.

So you've got darts under the bust and gathers around the waist (taking notes).  I've been admiring people's old-fashioned overalls for a little while now and this makes me feel I could pull it off without a pattern.  They're great.

Damn.  Love that dress and am wondering if I have the balls to wear zebra stripes like that.  Have you thought of being a stylist?  I'm really digging the combinations.

I received my hoop from tattooedcrafter this morning (I check my mail on the way out, when I get home I can't be bothered to walk over to the boxes - it's cold out).

I love the white/blue on white/blue softness of it.  Of course, Fujisan is always lovely looking.

Thanks, tattooedcrafter.  I'm not sure if I'm going to put it in my closet or the craft room.  Don't take the closet comment the wrong way.  It's my little private room first thing in the morning (I get ready at o'dark-thirty before anyone else) and I recently organized it and painted it blue and have been wanting to hang something on the two feet of bare wall to make it nicer.  Smiley
26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: My first sewing projects--a couple of aprons on: January 06, 2011 07:37:46 PM
Ha, aprons are the best - and they're addicting.  I have over 20, more than half homemade by me.  Just get some nice hooks to display them on.

Oh, and my husband and I refer to the fabric store as "my crack dealer".  I know I shouldn't buy more fabric, but it's-just-so-pretty-and-it-was-totally-on-sale-so-I-HAD-to-buy-it.

DONE!  I signed them while yelling at The Fashion Show (stupid Calvin is so annoying).  Probably package them up tomorrow and put them in the mail on Thursday.
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Beginner questions about making a top out of jersey on: January 01, 2011 04:49:22 PM
I strongly recommend buying or checking out Wendy Mullin's Home Stretch.  She does a really great job explaining how to sew knits and there are patterns tucked into the back.

That's hot.

I think that style of leg rides up no matter what you do.  I dunno if you really need lining - it is black so things won't get outlined in the water.
