11  Re: Disney Rd. 8 GALLERY (send-outs Sept. 1st) in The Swap Gallery by sixblueirises on: September 10, 2008 05:23:07 AM
So Fickle Pegasus and I met up to swap yesterday. Boy was I ever spoiled.  Grin A more detailed post of what I got should be up later today, when I have decent light for photography.

For now, though, here is a picture of the two of us meeting up. We are also modeling two of our items. That is FicklePegasus on the left, and I am on the right. (I look pretty horrendous- I had just left work and ran over there.  Shocked )

12  Re: **Pretty Pincushion Swap gallery** in The Swap Gallery by sixblueirises on: July 25, 2008 11:02:48 AM
I received from jennyleigh yesterday, and boy am I one lucky girl!

My first pincushion is a decoupaged box with a pincushion on top. I'm always losing my smaller sewing supplies, so this is wonderful! I love Mary Blair, so she found some small images of Mary Blair's art and put them all around the sides of the box.

Here's a close up of the art along the sides:

My other pincushion is a patchwork chicken that I have christened Martin, after a Jane Austen character who farms:

I love that he is a little cockeyed. Jennyleigh said it made her laugh, so she left it, and I think it gives Martin lots of personality.

Only problem is, he's so cute I haven't yet had the heart to stick pins into him!

Jennyleigh filled both pincushions with ground English walnut shells, which is evidently supposed to be good for pins. It is sold in pet stores as reptile bedding.   Cheesy I think the filling gives them a very nice weight!

Jennyleigh, I tend to take pretty crummy pictures, so if you have any others you would like to post, be my guest! And thank you again for my wonderful pincushions!

13  Everything's Coming Up Roses Knitting Needle Roll! in Knitting: Completed Projects by sixblueirises on: June 06, 2008 11:32:10 AM
I made this knitting needle roll in the May Flowers swap for the lovely yellowblanket. I don't knit and so I just kinda had to wing it, but it seems like she liked it and has been able to use it.

These pictures are hers and used with permission, cause she takes way better pics than I do. Thanks, yellowblanket!

Here's the roll, all rolled up.

Unrolled. Next time I won't use so much interfacing, as it doesn't look very neat unrolled.

And an action shot!

14  Flourless chocolate cake! With Raspberries! in Dessert by sixblueirises on: June 04, 2008 08:13:08 PM
This is actually the second time I have made this cake. It's made from a really good recipe I have found on Food Network's website. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_30296,00.html

Please excuse all the kitchen mess in the background; I was as usual running late.

The top is dusted with cocoa powder. It was supposed to be polka dotted but I was doing it in a hurry and so it was basically a mess.

15  Re: April Crafting Brings May FLOWERS Gallery in The Swap Gallery by sixblueirises on: June 04, 2008 07:23:45 PM
First of all, I have to apologize to yellowblanket for taking so long to post her lovely items. Stupid real life keeps getting in the way of my internet time!

Anyways, here goes.

First a group shot of all the loot.

She sent me this beautiful yellow rosey washcloth. There actually is a rose design knitted in to the cloth, but it doesn't show very well in the picture. (I am sure someone who is not scared by all of the settings on my digital camera could get it to show. I cannot.)

She also sent me two beautiful knitted caps. I just can't wait till we have our five annual days of cold weather so I can show them off!  Grin I think this is as good an excuse as any to make myself a matching coat!

Yellowblanket also sent me beautiful flowery slippers. They are a little dirty in the pictures because I have already used them. Please also excuse my pasty, weirdly shaped feet!

One of the two items that don't have inidvidual pictures are a large packet of seeds for plants that attract butterflies. (It has seeds for four o'clocks in it according to the back. I love those flowers!)  The other item is a small copy of Knitting for Dummies. I can't wait until I have a chance to attempt to teach myself to knit again and see if I actually can do it this time.

Altogether, it was a great swap. I loved crafting for yellowblanket and I loved the swap package I received.

16  My first embroidered tote bag! Pics! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sixblueirises on: March 18, 2008 06:40:28 PM
So, I've been in love with ladylemmon's Think Pink Cherry Blossom tote ever since I saw it. I just made my sister a tote for her birthday that is based on that tutorial.  I also created and embroidered my own design for the outside of the pocket.

Sorry, the photo quality isn't what I would have liked. It was my mom's camera, and I didn't really know how to use it.

The lucky recipient with her bag.

The bag by itself.

Embroidery detail.

The lining.

I didn't realize that the bag also doubles as a hat.
