21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Futurama Swap Round 3 on: February 15, 2012 09:13:38 PM
As an avid crocheter that knows how to knit, the thought of knitting a Robot Devil scares me.  Kudos on the awesome job!

YOU GUYS I think I'm just about ready to send. I need to finish taking photos and then package everything up, but all crafts are done. I'm thinking this will be in the mail on Tuesday. WOO!

Oh my!  You're a beast!

I've essentially gotten two 2's done and am about ready to start on my other thing!
23  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Flounder Hat (from The Little Mermaid) on: February 09, 2012 06:29:23 PM
Thanks for the kind words everyone!

It wasn't really hard to make either.  I think I managed to work mine all up in one day (though I stayed up late cause I got way too excited and couldn't go to bed without it finished, haha)
24  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Flounder Hat (from The Little Mermaid) on: February 08, 2012 05:07:51 PM
I made this hat for one of my best friends for Christmas (yeah, I'm awful at crafting things on time so it wasn't completed in time for the holiday but it was done quite a bit before now at least!  Roll Eyes ).

Her name is Ariel so The Little Mermaid is a big thing for her.  She gets stuff with it on it all the time.  A looooooong time ago when I first learned how to knit, the first thing I made to branch out from scarves was a fish hat for her.  It wasn't until recently that I learned that, while she wears the hat frequently, it's actually too big for her.  Instead of trying to make that hat work, I wanted to make her a whole new one since my skills have waaaay improved then (plus crochet is much better, right??  Wink ).  I figured making her a Flounder hat was the absolute perfect solution and thus made this:

Sorry for the cruddy pictures.  I don't have a good set-up and I totally forgot to take pictures until she was wearing the hat and literally about to leave.  I had to beg her to stay a couple more minutes so I could even get pics  Cheesy

Regardless, I am SUPER pleased with how it came out!  I managed to get the dorsal fin to turn out PERFECT.  Plus, I was able to make it fit her head amazingly.  I also like that the tail can be made to stand up, or flop down in any direction she likes.

And, best of all, she loves it!  Nothing better than that!  Grin

Questions and comments welcome (and encouraged!)!

Have all but finished two mediums.  Only set out to make one but wasn't quite pleased with the finished product so tried essentially the same thing but took a different road to get there.  A tad frustrating but exciting at the same time!

I must say this has been a lot of fun already and I've watched enough Futurama through the entire process that I'll need another swap immediately following this one so I can use up all my ideas!

I think that I am going to attempt a craft I have never tried before for one of the items I'd like to make.  Need to pick up a supply or two for it so we'll see how it goes.  Fingers crossed because it'll be perfect if I can pull it off! Smiley

UGH

I am frustrated.  I just found out that one of the medium items I was planning on making is NOT going to work.  Of course, it took an hour to figure this out Sad

Back to the drawing board!

Just need to warn anyone that isn't familiar with the website, Cracked is highly addicting. Fair warning

Hopefully I'll be starting some of my smaller trinkets tomorrow! Cheesy

Brainstorming ideas...thought others might find this useful:

Read the second part of #5: http://www.cracked.com/article_19210_7-insane-easter-eggs-hidden-in-movies-tv-shows.html

They actually have two different alien languages and invented a math theorem.  Talk about awesome!

Also, I have figured out two little items I am making for sure, another that I'm probably making, and am narrowing down ideas for a larger one.  I'm thinking I will be making the two small items shortly!  Yay progress! Cheesy
