1  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Short N Sweet Red Bolero - Slightly picture happy - I'm soooo proud! take a look on: September 28, 2008 03:13:58 AM
Thanks so much for the heads-up on the right side. I have googled it and you were right, I found it no problem.

I left work early the day the book arrived but due to one thing and another I haven't been able to start it (one of the reasons being it was a friend of mine's birthday so I made her the "in Bloom" bag. Ooh it was difficult giving it away).
Well today, I'm going to stick on Hairspray the movie and start on my bolero.

I'll post a pic when done (I think it may take me a little longer than 3 days though Wink )

Thanks so much!

Wow! I have just been on Amazon ordering The Happy Hooker so I can make myself one. If it turns out even half as fab as yours I will be very happy.
You look great. Ooh roll on Tuesday...

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Shrunken Head pincushion on: August 06, 2008 11:59:39 AM
I hope this is an okay topic to post pictures of a pincushion.
I made for a swap and I'm really pleased with how it came out.

A while back I became quite fascinated by shrunken heads and so did some research on their history and how they were made (its very interesting if you find you have a few spare minutes. Basically, souvenirs at the end of the day). I saw a couple in a museum and think its so tragic, macabre and yet really intriguing.
I thought they would be fun as a pincushion so decided to make one. I decided to use tights (I think "pantyhose" in the US?) and wool, because I believe killing someone for their head is wrong and there aren't many neighbouring tribes to raid near me.
My fella was quite impressed and now wants one too (not that he sews). That's probably one of the best compliments from him. I started making a few more each with its own little personality.
I will add a few details to the next lot such as bones through the nose, etc and I'll be a bit more careful in the detail. I ran out of time in the swap for this one.

I hope you like him  Wink
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Shape, Color and Texture Swap Round 2 Gallery on: August 06, 2008 11:27:07 AM
Phew, I was really worried. I hope you really did like them. I took pictures (with my new fancy camera) if you want me to post those. Usually with me the thing I've lost turns up the moment I no longer need it.

My parcel arrive today- with a big chunk out of it  Angry I'm really tempted to contact Royal Mail and complain but I think they will say it happened before it arrived here. Thankfully all my goodies are okay, although the bag was covered in paper bits from the envelope stuffing.

Thank you Amy!
As you'll see from the pictures Myrna Minx made it extremely difficult for herself by making all three items, purple, triangular and velvety. How tough was that?

A bag

A view of the funky lining

A pouch with beads in

and earrings

Thank you ever so much. They're great.

That is one amazing watering can! I love the button bracelet too. It's all great.

I'm a little worried about the where-abouts of the parcel I sent to Myrna Minx. The guy at the post office said 4 days! Well it has certainly been a lot longer than that.  Huh

I really what to see what Myrna Minx thinks. Seeing everyone elses packages has helped me through  Wink
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Sewing Kit Swap Gallery on: August 05, 2008 01:01:09 AM
Bonny, I'm so glad you liked it!  Grin I tried to make it really colourful as I thought you would like that. I knew I couldn't go wrong featuring an owl. Happy Sewing!!

I spent most of last night sewing away with my kit. Its fab.

All the pics of the different kits I've seen so far have been great. It's wonderful how from a simple description like a sewing kit so many wonderful ideas get made with no two being remotely alike.

Wow, that's some package!!
I did send my package yesterday and PM'd Michelleames. I'm not sure if she got it as I don't have a (sent) after my name. So don't worry Almostexact your package is on its way. I'm very nervous about it because I received my exquisite sewing kit today.
It's beautiful!!

How gorgeous is that? I adore the tortoise material.

Thank you so much Almostexact!

10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Shape, Color and Texture Swap Round 2 - sendout deadline July 28 on: July 28, 2008 10:48:08 AM
I posted my package today in an amazing thunder & lightning storm that came form nowhere.

I'm nervous but still looking forward to my partner's reaction and looking forward to mine arriving  Grin

Myrna Minx- the post person said it should take 4 days by airmail (I don't know if that includes today though). All going okay you should have by the end of the week. I really hope you like them!!
