1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Comic Con? on: July 16, 2010 10:18:47 AM
Anyone going to Comic Con next week?  I'm going as Morrigan from Dragon Age unless I lose my nerve.

Here's the skirt:

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Felt Advent Calendar (mmm Ghirardelli) on: December 16, 2008 11:19:50 AM
This felt calendar is inspired by a felt advent calendar I saw in Germany - and also by the crazy felt sale at Joann Fabrics over Thanksgiving weekend Wink

It's synthetic felt, I love wool but it is so expensive.  This worked quite well though.

I made the pockets big enough for my fav chocolate, Ghirardelli squares!

This is my first time using the blanket stitch, perhaps obviously. Smiley

And this is the most chain stitch I've ever done - I got a lot better at it.  I still haven't learned to cut straight lines though, lol... please forgive the wonky edges here.

I'm calling this done for now, because it is already the middle of December... but I do want to embroider the edge of the stable shape eventually, in brown I think.  A blanket or a chain stitch, I haven't decided.

Update: I've posted the appliqu pattern and general size information on my blog.
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Superheroic Sewing Desk on: November 10, 2008 12:56:31 PM
I wanted a sewing desk with sides that fold out, so I found this old sewing desk on Craigslist.  The sewing machine was removed, so I got a piece of wood from Home Depot custom cut to fit the hole, and got to work.

I painted the whole thing red (it was initially a dusty fake wood color) and I re-upholstered the seat cover.  Then I got to covering the inside with my favorite things.

Comics!  And some fashion photos and stencils to fill it out.

I saved my favorite ones for the top...

An Alex Maleev Daredevil, John Romita Jr. Spiderman, and Jim Lee Superman.  Don't worry, none of the comics I tore these out of were worth anything Wink

Thanks for looking!

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / "I Voted" magnet on: November 06, 2008 10:35:26 AM
I love those "I Voted" stickers and I wanted to do something with mine.  So I made a magnet

I used Aleene's Paper Glaze, blue ribbon, and a piece of cardboard.  It didn't come out perfect, but I like it.  Did anyone else make any "I Voted" sticker projects?  (I saw the cookimistress' necklace, and that was quite awesome)
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / tampon cozy is dead. on: September 26, 2008 06:52:42 PM
This goes in a purse, so i think this is the right place to put this.  In this first pic, it almost looks like a whimsical clutch...

... but no.

I felt very yuck today, so I decided I absolutely needed a dead-faced tampon holder.   I like having something to keep my tampons hidden, and also keep them from getting mangled in my purse.  It's made of linen, with a satiny lining, and it holds four tampons.  I might add another lower button so that it can fold down smaller if it's only holding two, but I'm done for now.  Hope you like!

A bunch more pictures, howto, etc, on my blog.
6  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 30 ENTRIES / Mario Pipe/Piranha Plant TP Cozy on: September 02, 2008 12:05:58 PM
Here's a toilet paper cozy that looks at home on a toilet.  A Super Mario Bros warp pipe!

But uh-oh.... it's also a Piranha Plant!!

It's got velcro so it can switch.

Toilet paper goes in here.

Ah sillyness!

The pipe is made of foam and paper mache, covered in quilting fabric.  The piranha plant is made of ponte knit and felt, my first stuffed "animal"

Chomp!

7  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Busted Flats to Gold Slippers (shiny!) on: August 05, 2008 08:40:41 PM
I've wanted some gold metallic flats for a while.  They are one of those of-the-moment items that I wanted irrationally, but could not justify paying for.  I got the idea to paint my shoes from a post here, so I wanted to share the results with you.

I really like how they turned out!  I used gold leather paint (from Ebay)  - it seems to be cracking a little bit but not too bad.  The flowers I improvised with some beads from my stash, and are attached using some hair clips I didn't like any more (see the purple)

The shoes were a pair of black flats that were too beat up to wear any more.  Here's a before pic:

8  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 28 ENTRIES / Cat Scratch Disaster to Gilded Office Chair on: June 04, 2008 11:02:07 AM
Hi, everybody.

I didn't think I would have time to finish this, but I got lucky yesterday at a discount fabric store and found the perfect maroon microsuede at a deep discount, so that lit a fire for me and I turned this out last night.  Here's the final product:

(hey, it kind of looks like a face, doesn't it?)

Before:

A plain black office chair, ruthlessly savaged by cat claws. See:

I used a combination of machine sewing, staple gunning, painting, hot gluing, and brute force to put this together.   There's some stuff that needs fixing but I'm pretty happy with it overall.

Details:

I added a piece of gold trim to the back to make it less inviting to cat claws (they like a long smooth surface).

Note the messy living room - mad crafting happened here!  I'd like to show it to you in the office, where you could see how it matches the decor, but there isn't enough room for pictures in there.

Sorry the pics are kind of dark and blurry and covered in cat toys, I really needed to get to bed Smiley
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Choji Toilet Paper Cozy (with irony!) on: April 07, 2008 11:41:56 AM

I made this for a friend as a Christmas present, because I think goofy cozies may be the best Christmas presents ever.  I've noticed a few Naruto fans around so I thought I'd post it.

This is Choji, the chubby ninja.  Here's a pic for reference:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d197/mine3/choji.jpg

I ran out of thread in the right colors and had no time to get more, so there are a few weird thread color choices, but I still like it.  His crazy face cracks me up -- he looks quite psycho when he's not stuffed.  He's made of fabric scraps, yarn hair, and polymer clay, and he's got a spare roll of toilet paper in his tummy.

Thanks for reading Smiley
10  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Front Page Pic Q on: April 01, 2008 01:35:16 PM
Hi.  I entered the dollar store challenge this morning, and being a newb, I did not realize that the top picture is the one that gets shown on the front page.  My top pic is not cute!

If I move another picture to the top, will the front page change?  Or will it be not cute forever?

TIA Smiley
