1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Handmade Bird Swap, Sweat Shoppe Style! -- SEND OUT 4/30 on: May 25, 2009 10:24:46 AM
I've received the last of my little birds, from ma rut, catrinau, and ohthat. My camera unfortunately went on an unexpected trip out of town, and it may be a couple more weeks before I can take any pictures. Sorry guys, and thanks for the birds!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: 1920's Singer Treadle Sewing Machine on: May 20, 2009 09:05:54 PM
I used to use a treadle sewing machine, and I absolutely loved it. The reason that I stopped using it however, was that I could not keep a functional belt on it. My machine only worked with a leather belt, which always stretched out on me, and therefor became useless. My machine was in the basement at the time, which probably was the cause of this. Hope you don't have this problem!

I have two lovely birds so far. The first is a beautiful fabric bird from Colorfuldayz. I am totally in awe of the patience and skill which went into this. There must be about a hundred french knots, a technique which I was never able to master. So sorry I failed to rotate the photo.

The next item I received was this gorgeous scarf from KungPow, which was both hand dyed and silkscreened. It's almost too beautiful to wear. Almost.

Thanks so much, guys.  I love both of these. Kungpow, I hope you like what I'm sending just as much.

Avesthel-I actually made the bird design by sandblasting the pattern on. First I made a little sketch, which I cut out of contact paper and applied to the metal after texturing and polishing. It's quite gratifying to pull the contact paper off and see what you end up with.

I received a beautiful birdy from colorfuldayz yesterday-I'll put it up once I get a chance to take pictures

The necklace is from me. I really should have put my screen name on the package, but I always feel like the people at the post office give me funny looks to begin with. I'm so happy you like it. Also, very surprised that it came already, seeing as I cheaped out a bit on postage. Oh, and my sincere apologies for the messed up 925 stamp on the back. Just as I was swinging the hammer somebody distracted me. Said messy stamp is the result. But yeah, it's all sterling silver, including the chain, just in case you were wondering. Can't wait to start receiving my birdies!

I'm actually a little confused- do I need to wait for everyone I'm sending to to have a green light, or is it receiving from/ both? Hopefully everyone will have a green light by tomorrow morning, as that's the only chance I'll have tomorrow to go to the post office. If not, I'll just have to make another trip some other day soon.

Well, one of the materials that I need seems to be nonexistent in Seattle right now, so I'm ordering online, and then I'll be pretty much good to go for sendouts. eek, getting a bit down to the wire. good thing I always work best with a deadline!

I just got back from out of town, and the studios at school open today, so I can really start crafting hardcore. Can't wait!

Sounds good to me. Although, if partners are not assigned until at least Saturday, should the send-out date be pushed back, so we still have a full month? I'm fine either way. Thanks Avesthe, for stepping up to the task, should it be needed.
