11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: ANOTHER Pin Cushion Swap Round 11 Gallery on: March 19, 2009 03:18:19 PM
I love the fabrics used in both the pin cushions! Great work, again!

And, who else is besides me is SO GLAD that tomorrow is the first official day of Spring?? Yay for the Vernal Equinox!
It is finally (sort of) starting to feel like Spring here in godforsaken, frozen Maine. I actually found the first green shoots of a crocus yesterday!  Whoo hoo!  Isn't Spring amazing?
12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Cowboy Rag Quilt in Blue, Green, & Brown on: March 15, 2009 08:28:11 AM
Beautiful quilt--aren't they addicting??

I made my first rag quilt about a month ago, too.  I used the pre-cut 10" squares from a layer cake, so it was a lot fewer squares!  (And the only cutting was the batting for the squares--yay).  I love the look, and I will  probably do more, especially with the 5" charm squares.  They really are a time saver!

SpencerTwins2007 found such great fabric for my pincushion--I love that you sent some extra! Both pincushions make me smile just looking at them; they are so happy and pretty.  Thanks, SpencerTwins2007, for being a great first swap partner, and for being so AMAZINGLY super speedy about sending and posting pics!  I am feeling so slow for not having gotten yet to the fabric store! Let alone made and sent!  Wink
14  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: ANOTHER Pin Cushion Swap Round 11 (sign-ups CLOSED, send out 04/09/09) on: March 09, 2009 03:29:24 PM
Gee whiz, ready to send???

I am excited that I have narrowed it down to one idea! I started prototyping last night, and wanted to go fabric shopping after work today.  .  . BUT it SNOWED ALL DAY LONG.  So I just headed home after work ended, slipping and sliding down the country roads.  And Tuesday my nearest fabric shop is closed! So I can't get any new fabric til Wednesday at the earliest! Wah!

Oooh, LOVE this pin topper: I have a snail phobia (don't ask!) but this snail is pretty adorable!

I didn't know there was a name for all the cool things people add to their pincushions--good to know they are called pintoppers!  I have some ink-jet printable shrinky dink stuff lying around . . . that would be good to play with . . . hmm!

Looking online for pincushion inspiration, I found this tutorial for a sweet baby shoe pincushion.  I'm not sure if this has been posted in previous swaps, but here is the link:

Ooh, I just realized it would make a nice baby shower gift for a crafty mommy, too!

I just sent my info in.  This is also my first swap, but I have been thinking about making pincushions for a long time. So this is a great way to just do it!
19  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: Adopt a Soldier on: March 02, 2009 06:24:44 PM
I signed up a few weeks ago, and so did my husband. (We found out about the program from a different web site, not Craftster.)  My soldier is a tactical vehicle driver in Iraq, and she says she doesn't need anything, but I'd still like to send her *something*.  We have sent a few emails, and I am sending a snail mail letter tomorrow.

My husband is writing to an infantryman in Iraq, who wanted a baseball and a baseball glove, as well as hygiene products, power strips, and candy to give to the Iraqi kids.  It's too much for us to buy by ourselves, so I have asked friends if they can contribute to the box, and they are also asking their colleagues at work.  I think we'll have a great box to send off.

I found a helpful website that gives very specific, detailed instructions on how to best pack a care package for a soldier deployed overseas. I'll go find it now and post it below.

Golly, another great heartofmary project!

And what a coincidence--I clicked on this project as a break before I start sewing (another) heartofmary's zippered pouch as a gift for someone!
