I was in a swap recently and my partner has some great ideas for the type of poppet she wanted. One of her ideas was a mermaid. I've always wanted to make one but was never sure about how to make the tail. I thought I would give it a shot and this is what I came up with.

I just couldn't pass up trying to make a tail with that fabric. It looked like scales to me. And for her hair I found the little bubbles in the party department and thought it looked a bit like the seaweed with the little bulbs on them you find in the ocean. She even had her own offering of a big ol pearl for her new friend.

Ohh! She's gorgeous!I love the hair.
That must have taken allot of time to do. Are the "hair pieces" sewn on individually or together? I can't tell
I took the easy way and made the crocheted wigcap and tied the "hair" on. Smiley

I used the weft method and made three (I think Undecided) different sections and sewed them on. I like the crochet method a lot! It covers "bald" spots. Using the wefting method, I find, the hair gets really heavy and weighs down the head. The wigcap you're able to use less yarn and get more full look. (my opinion  Grin) The yarn I used for her hair was pretty fluffy so I figured wefting would work since the thickness would cover well....and I don't know how to crochet.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
