For this challenge I decided to make bird feeders to hang in my back yard. The materials I purchased from the Dollar General to used were:
2 yellow plaid patterned plastic plates- $0.75 each
4 green plastic bowls- $1.00 for a pack of 4
1 ball of twine- $1.00



(I found the plates and bowls in the seasonal/patio section, they had lots of different designs and colors to choose from. I highly encourage everyone to check that section out!)

The materials I already had were my hot glue gun, paint and paint brushes and some acrylic sealer.

The first thing I did was cut out sections in two of the bowls for the bird feed to fall through. Next I took the remaining two bowls and cut an opening in the bottom of each one. Later in the project I used those to string twine through so that I could hang up the bird feeder.


Next I decorated the bowls by painting some flowers on them. After that I took my hot glue gun and glued some twine around the top of what would become the bottom bowl (the twine helps to hide where the two bowls will meet). After that I pulled out a good length of twine, folded it in half, and threaded it through the bowls and then hot glued the excess to the bottom bowl. After that I glued the plaid plate to the bottom of the bottom bowl to make a base for the bird feed and the birds to land on.





I know all that sounds complicated but it was really simple and I can't believe I made 2 bird feeders for 4 dollars and some odd cents!! This is my first challenge and I am so pleased with the results!! I've got them hanging on either side of my back deck. Now all I have to do is sit back and let things go to the birds!!
