1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / If my green tea soap is brown... on: December 01, 2009 06:49:08 AM
does that mean that I brewed the tea too strong?

The recipes called for really strong tea, so I used 3 bags steeped in about 12 oz of water. After it finished steeping and cooling it was a nice green color, but as soon as I poured the lye in, it turned dark brown like coffee.

I even saw streaks of red while I was mixing it and waiting for it to trace.

In the future, what can I do to just give the soap a pale green or even an amber color when I'm using green tea?
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / No, you can't quit your job to sell quilts. on: June 11, 2009 06:06:06 AM
What do you guys think about this article?

http://www.doublex.com/section/work/etsycom-peddles-false-feminist-fantasy

I kind of see what she's saying about the low profit margin, but she also assumes that people sell on etsy to the exclusion of other outlets like craft fairs, independent websites, stores, etc. And "false feminist fantasy" ? Hmmmm..... Tongue
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Bottle Cap Charm Bracelet on: August 10, 2008 09:14:06 AM
Hi,

I saw this bracelet in the most recent issue of Craft: Magazine and I would like to make it, but I am not sure what was done to the bottle caps to make the "bubble" effect on the charms.

I hope you all can help me out.  I'm assuming that she used resin at some point, because it looks so glossy and it also looks like it was set in the silver cases...

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone here buy organic cotton fabric? on: March 13, 2008 07:04:45 PM
I'm very, very, new to this whole sewing business and I was wondering if any of you buy organic cotton fabric that has been printed/dyed and if so, where do you buy it from?  I'm on a "save the world" kick right now and I'm looking at the clothes that I buy (or hopefully will get around to making one day soon) and thinking about what I could do better.   I did find one website, www.harmonyart.com that had prints for $23/yd and that's too expensive for me!
