1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Twilight Book look-a-like Jewelry Box on: July 10, 2009 06:24:08 AM
I made this for a special girl, who is turning 16! She is a big twilight fan (as am I) The whole thing was relatively easy to do, minus the hands on the cover. I almost gave up. I'm quite pleased with the finished project. However, the "dries clear" glue I used to put the felt in the inside, did not dry clear. I'm thankful I was neat about it. Its too late to redo- her party is tomorrow. Overall though, I'm proud of my work! Hope you like it! C&C are always welcome!

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Can anyone help me crochet an apple logo? on: June 23, 2009 07:50:41 AM
My bff is creating a super cool pillow for another friend, and she needs to make an apple logo to complete it. apple logo as in mac computers, ipods, iphones, etc. etc.

I am trying to help her with this apple logo thing, I can't think up how to create it. If someone were to suggest a pattern idea I'd be able to try it out! Or even if someone else had created this & put up a picture, I'd be able to figure it out from that I suppose.

Thanks in advance for trying to help us!  Grin
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Laptop Bag- Messenger Bag Style - IDEAS?! HELP? on: April 23, 2009 07:28:40 AM

I made this bag for my friend for her birthday. It is for her laptop. Its padded with 1/2" foam. I put pockets in front under the flap to hold the mouse & the power cord.

I'm really proud of this bag because I thought of the design & made it without any pattern or anything. I really worked hard on it & tried to make it perfect. And it come out awesome, as far as looks go.

That being said, I'm completely bummed out because I never got to actually see the laptop & used her measurements & I would have liked to model it around her actual laptop. But anyway, it seems to be very tight. I guess the height is ok, but the length is not. Its too short. I told her to try & wear it in a little, so maybe it would stretch. My other thought was to rip it all apart *big sigh* & try & sew the sides together again, a little closer to the edge? ugh.
Anyone have any stress saving wonder ideas?!?! Sad Thanks Smiley
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Dave Matthews Band Swap?? on: April 08, 2009 09:51:27 AM
Grin Ok, maybe I'm a little obsessed. alright I'm a lot obsessed with the Dave Matthews Band. The first show of the year (for me) is next Tuesday & I'm really excited about tour.

My last swap partner made me some really cool DMB things!!! And every year before tour I make my best friend something DMB related to kick off the tour. What inspires you better than your favorite music!?!

With all the sold out shows- and all the creative things I see at shows- there has GOT to be other crafty dmb-obsessed persons out there!!!

This would be my first swap as organizer... I'm a little nervous about that. Undecided But I'm sure I can handle it.

And I would say we'd do something simple like 2 mediums & a small... or like 2 mediums & a mix cd of dmb songs...

Enthusiasm & Suggestions will be much appreciated!!!

Some of my DMB inspired art for your thoughts...

made for a fellow fan

made for my BFF to kick off '08 tour

Rice Pillow for my BFF to kick of '09 tour (hey we are getting older...dancing all night can really make you ache!)

iPod nano cover
There's more...oh there's more... but just some ideas.
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / So my BFF asked me to make her a laptop bag... eeek - HELP! (Please) on: April 05, 2009 06:41:18 AM
Hello-
My friend's birthday is coming up & she asked me to make her a laptop bag. I have decided that I will make it messenger bag style. I think I will use the tutorial that says, messenger bag (the plain one, second down) I'm not a great sewer but I'm sure I can do that.

Now, here's the complicated part. Bc it will be a laptop bag, I need to add in some sort of padding. I looked in JoAnns & there is some padding (I'm sure there is an official name for this, but Idk what it is) its green. Ranging from like 10" to like 1/2" thick. I've also considered some sort of thick batting. So here are my questions:

1. Which do you think would be best?
2. Which do you think would be the least difficult to sew in?
3. At what point in the bag making process should I put this in?
4. Should I just make like a sleeve for it to go in & not try to sew it in?

AHHHH... she has more faith in my sewing skills than I do. I tried to tell her that I would BUY her a laptop bag. She insists that I create it.

Thank you in advance for your help! Smiley
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Help Purchasing Unique Beads (please!!!) on: March 23, 2009 02:41:34 PM
Huh There used to be a store in Woodstock, NY called Woodstock Bead Emporium. I've gone there since I was small. Last time I visited there I bought a (ceramic/clay/wood) bead in the shape of a dragon & made a necklace for my boyfriend. The dragon bead broke & we went there this weekend & the store was closed (along with a lot of others Sad
My boyfriend was really disappointed that we couldn't buy a new bead. He loved that necklace. I searched online & I can't come up with any good online stores that might carry such a thing.
I was hoping my fellow crafsters might know of a good online store I might purchase this kind of thing from? I don't think its the sort of thing that Michael's or ACMoore, etc. might carry.
Thank you in advance
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Granny Rectangle Afghan :) on: February 20, 2009 04:26:32 PM

I started making granny squares awhile ago. I wanted to make a bag, and I did, and it was super huge, and I wanted to line it, and that didn't go so well, so I got over the bag, ripped it apart & started to make it an afghan. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. The colors are a little off in the picture. The blue is really more turquoise, and the green is more olivey. Comments & Constructive Criticisms are always welcome.

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Fabric Stash Wreath on: December 11, 2008 04:59:05 PM
I can't take credit for the originality of this wreath, I did see it in a craft email I get. I want to say it was Better Homes & Gardens?

But anyway, it was super easy. bought wreath, cut 3"x1" stripes of holiday colored fabric, tied to branches, added 3 pieces of holly & viola! I'm giving it to my boyfriend's parents for Christmas! Let me know what you think!

9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Amigurumi Frosty! on: December 11, 2008 04:50:51 PM
I found the original pattern on lionbrand.com under free crochet patterns. I made it my own in little ways. Hope you enjoy & make your own!

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / Pine Cone Place Cards on: November 24, 2008 08:13:30 PM
I get the newsletter from Better Homes & Gardens... they suggested Pine Cones as Place Card holders! I made 12 of these for FREE! yay! This is just one of them... I forgot to take a picture of them all before I put them away to take with me thanksgiving day. Making Place Cards is like my own little tradition. These were way fun & really easy. I collected pine cones (right outside my apt!) painted glue on each little umm.... branch? then sprinkled glitter. Cut the cards out of different card stock I had & then painted glue around the edges & dipped into the pile of glitter I accumulated from sprinkling the pine cones. Viola! I can't wait to see them all on the table.
