11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Many hours spent...dress too small on: July 12, 2008 11:40:09 AM
Oh, I can commiserate. I am trying to finish a project that I thought would be too small - but it miraculously fits, except for the chest. Mine is lined, so I just made the lining first to make sure it would fit before I tried it with the actual fabric. You might be able to let the chest area out, if it has darts, or you could pick out the stitches and just sew the seam allowance narrower. I hope you find a way to fix it!

The Burdastyle website has a few free menswear patterns - a t-shirt, button-up shirt, slacks, and a tie, I think. I keep meaning to start one for my husband!

I see patterns that size on eBay all the time! Of course there are more teeny patterns, but larger patterns certainly exist. I own several! I actually really like sewing with vintage patterns, they are mostly pre-cut, which I appreciate (being particularly lazy). They major pattern makers have also re-released a number of vintage patterns, which you can buy in more sizes. Check their websites or ebay for these as well.

I think it is beautiful! It certainly looks like it took more than four days to make.

This is so beautiful! I love that the straps and tie are in a contrasting color, it looks so much more interesting than the examples on the pattern envelope. I just looked at the pattern, and it is not only cheap but seems to make a million different dresses! You have completely inspired me to buy it.

Wow, that is beautiful! I hear ruffles are big this season too.

Cute! The stripes and solid work so well together on this dress. Good luck with your portfolio!

That jacket is so cute and fits you so nicely! I have been planning on making a similar spring jacket for months - I've been putting it off because I wasn't planning on using a printed pattern and was nervous about drafting my own. However it just snowed six more inches so I guess I have a little time, and if all else fails I could use this pattern!

The cording on that dress is really stunning!

Oh, I really liked this jacket when I saw it on the Burda site, and it looks like yours fits you perfectly! It looks really professional, and thank you so much for sharing the construction tips.
