31  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: 2016 Ongoing ATC Swap Discussion Thread on: January 29, 2016 06:26:25 AM
A question for all of you: when you're claiming someone, do you publicly claim first and then start on the card, or do you make the card before actually claiming that person?

Ooh, and one question that I'm probably overthinking: when you add the list of claims/sent/received in your post where you claim someone, do you count the claims you're making in that post? I just claimed my first three people and said 3/0/0 in the same post. That's how it works, right?

As far as I understand being a newbie myself... Smiley

Claim before you craft, to avoid someone claiming in the meantime.

Count the claim you're making. You're only claiming the last person who posted their list, so your claim total should only go up by one each time until any of your cards are received.

Can I just mention I love how low-key this swap is? I like being able to decide how much I want to make, how many claims, etc.

I'm really bad at remembering to post photos of the amazingness I've received though... oops. Will get on that today!!

My latest blooper was not on an ATC but on a wedding invitation I designed for a friend this year... I accidentally put the date as 2015, and we printed and shipped them without noticing! Whoops. At least everyone knows what I meant. Smiley

I've always wondered - what does skunk smell like?

I really don't know if there is a comparison the best comparison I read said kind of like a mix of body odor and burnt rubber. Very pungent and sharp.

how did you back them with the fabric? did you just sew them together? That might make it much easier without having to iron all the interfacing. Cheaper too as i wouldn't have to buy more interfacing. and it would make it a better destash since i could use all my ugly fabric i have laying around to back them.

If I remember correctly, we cut the squares of fabric to the same size as the t-shirt squares (10" or something like that) and then just pinned them together in the corners. Then as we sewed the strips in between the rows we removed the pins. The quilt was basically made more like a duvet cover, which we then slid an old comforter into, sewed shut, and sewed pieces of yarn through between the t-shirt squares and knotted.

I can't find a picture of the king sized one we made which had the knots showing on the front, but this is the queen sized one we made (knots are on the back): http://estranged-illusions.deviantart.com/art/t-shirt-quilt-84424032

I've got enough t-shirts to do another, but I'm debating if I really need one more! Grin Maybe some coordinating pillows instead...

Underthemountain I'm going to iron on interfacing to each tee shirt so it acts more like regular quilting fabric.

I made a t-shirt quilt with my mom a few years ago and even just backing each square with a square of lightweight fabric (I think we used old bedsheets) worked great! Love my t-shirt quilts; they're some of the warmest blankets I own. Smiley
