I received an awesome reversible sunhat from anna.wahnsinn!

I put on my red shades because I felt very hippie-dippy in my flowery dress and floppy hat!  Grin

And the other side is this funky retro silky material!

Thank you, Anne!

Cardamom is delicious! I was going to say, the closest thing I could compare it to is ginger; I really don't know how else to describe it!

Quantumphysica, speculoos (we call them speculaas) are SO GOOD! Om nom nom. I'm of Dutch heritage so we always had them growing up - though when we were kids we called them "windmill cookies" since the store bought ones looked like windmills. Smiley I made pfeffernsse (peppernut cookies - very similar taste to speculaas) last year and they're one of my new Christmas favourites!

They also use cardamom a lot in Finnish baking (the other side of my heritage) for coffee bread (pulla) and piiparkakku cookies. (Pardon my spelling!) Totally delicious!

On the baking note... I have a baking related goodie to share! (And one non-baking item that I forgot to share months ago!)

First up, non-baking: shower invites for a dear friend of mine. Made about 30 of these buggers! This was my prototype, and I ended up adding beads on the ends of the scroll posts on the final ones. Smiley I wrapped them in brown paper and stamped a pocket watch on each, and taped the ends closed with pink and yellow checkerboard washi tape.

Next up, on top of being a bridesmaid, I made their wedding cake! Vanilla with vanilla buttercream, at her request. The lighting in the hall was really dim, so unfortunately I don't have great pics. Hopefully the photographer got some! The cake is a pastel-ish yellow with blue ribbons around the bottom of the tiers, and homemade gum paste flowers. It was my first time doing a double barrel tier (two cakes stacked to make one extra tall middle tier) and I really like it! I had to go to Home Depot to get a putty knife big enough to frost it with, haha.

And on the back, I made a polymer clay worm (from the bride's favourite movie, Labyrinth) as a little surprise keepsake! When she went over to look at the cake for the first time, I told her she should take a look at the back. I was going to wait until they were cutting the cake but I was too excited! She loved it so much that she CRIED! I'm so glad I could do something that she was so happy about. Smiley I have better pics of this guy somewhere, he'll probably get his own thread eventually. For now, here he is supervising the decorating. Smiley

14  Re: OMG - I need a drink swap GALLERY (send outs July 10) in The Swap Gallery by fluffypants on: July 23, 2015 07:02:34 PM
What fun goodies! The towels are great. I bought my husband some of the beer salt for Christmas last year; he hasn't tried it with beer yet but the salt itself it actually quite tasty, haha. Smiley

I received a fabulous box of amazing from SheridanLA today!

First up, fun garnishes - umbrellas and drink markers, palm tree stickers, a little recipe booklet, and a cute necklace to wear while serving up goods at our.....

A great Tiki Bar sign which my husband thoroughly enjoys!

And my favourite, the piece de resistance - an amazing collaged canvas with a Rat Pack photo and one of my favourite Dean Martin quotes: "Don't drink and drive. Don't even putt." This is such a fun piece and I can't wait to put it up in my craft room! Smiley

Thanks so much, Sheridan - it's all worth drinking to! Smiley

17  Sirius Black quote lamp! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by fluffypants on: July 09, 2015 04:22:21 PM
Made for fatewineroses in the Quotes Quotes Quotes swap! This started as a really good idea. It took about 10x longer than I planned, but I was happy with the end result so I didn't mind so much. Wink

The creation:

When I read my partner's quote, the "light" and "dark" struck me as NEEDS TO BE A LAMP. Since I had a lamp base sitting around, it seemed fitting!

It started with designing a cut file of the quote. (For some reason my mind filled in the word "darkness" instead of "dark", whoops!) I then fed it through the silhouette on a heavy chalkboard paper (as I figured I wanted something stable enough that I didn't need a wireframe in the shade). Great idea? I thought so! The Silhouette didn't. I tried twice and it wouldn't cut through the paper. So, I cut the quote entirely by hand.

Then it ended up being too small for the frame I'd rigged up for the lamp. Oops. And I was out of black paper. Double oops. I tried creating a few of my own wireframes to hold it on the bulb (most were hilariously Frankenstein-ish). Then lo and behold, one day at a thrift store, I found a lampshade almost the exact same size, so I bought it and dismantled it, and glued it to my piece. HOORAH!

Long story short, it was a lot of trial and error but I'm glad it worked out in the long run. Smiley Next time I'll buy a lampshade to base it on first!

18  Dr. Who/Tardis Jewelry Box! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by fluffypants on: July 09, 2015 04:11:49 PM
Made for my partner, fatewineroses, in the Quotes Quotes Quotes swap. I was going to post this over in housewares, but noticed a notice pointing me this way, so here it is. Smiley

The completed project:

Humble beginnings:

The whole thing was painted in a cabinet paint before painting the galaxy effect in acrylics. I traced out the sides and top of the cabinet onto paper, and drew the banner so it would loop seamlessly across all sides. I then cut out my sketch and traced it onto the box, and painted it in. The quote and detailing was done in Sharpie once the paint had dried. Smiley

"I am and always will be..."

"The optimist, the hoper of far-flung hopes, and the dreamer of improbable dreams."

The glass out of the door was replaced with a little piece of something that was basically plexiglass; I just bought a sheet and cut to size.

I had a lot of fun with this one, and can't wait to do another! I picked up a jewelry box that plays the theme from the Godfather, so I'm anxious to figure something out for that one. Wink

Thanks for looking!

P.S.: fatewineroses, I had some trouble with the bottom drawer sticking. If you jiggle it by the sides rather than the handle, it'll come out! Smiley

The image transfer is so cool! I like the rough look to the edges.

My partner also received in the Darker Side of Disney swap, so I can finally post pics! The shrine I made has its own thread over here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=439913.0

AND other than the box/shelf, it was made entirely from stash, woohoo!

20  Disney Villains Shrine (kinda pic heavy) in Completed Projects by fluffypants on: July 08, 2015 06:04:19 PM
I made a shrine for amc- in the "Darker Side of Disney" swap! She's received so I am now safe to post photos!

From humble beginnings....

After painting and decorating the interior:

I made all the figures out of Sculpey. They were fun! I found a tutorial for Cruella and Hades on YouTube, and made up Scar and Captain Hook. Captain Hook is my favourite! I love the way his outfit turned out. Here they are before going into their "environments":

And after:

The full shebang!

A couple fun little things I used:
- Flat shiny green bead/charm things that reminded me of crocodile scales for part of Captain Hook's background
- A broken piece of jewelry (on the left) that was the closest thing I had to an alarm clock for the Cap'n
- A little picture of a dalmatian (I drew spots on a generic dog from some scrapbooking paper) with a pair of scissors on Cruella's background
- Scar is standing on a little pile of buttons, hehe Smiley
- The "gem" at top centre is a broken piece of jewelry, a bottle cap, a gem, a pendant, and a rhinestone brad
- The gemstones up the left side are an old bracelet my hubby's grandma bought me at a thrift store... the beads were cool, but I don't wear bracelets... yay craftiness!
- The rhinestone string up the middle is another bracelet I got in a surprise pack
- I originally made the flower on top for my wedding! It was part of a centrepiece. Smiley
- Other than the shelf/box itself, this piece was completely from stash. YAYYYY!

Thanks for looking!
