2  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Craft Supply Rounders anyone? on: January 12, 2006 03:53:13 PM
I posted this in the uk instant swap thread but, instead of hi-jacking the thread altogether, i thought I'd re post it here.
So here's what I was thinking:

It works like the journal thing we have going on at the moment.  Basically the first person gets together a package of their spare (must be usable) craft supplies which weighs (at least) an agreed weight.

This package gets sent on to the next person who takes out any of the supplies that they would like.  They then replace these items with some of their own spare supplies, making sure that it weighs at least the agreed amount.

This continues until it gets back around to the first person.  Then if anyone wants to we can send it back around again.

To make it fair everyone would have to make sure they put in something which they think is of a similar value to what they took out.

Everyone must make sure that their package weighs atleast 500g
You must live in the UK to participate.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Knockout swap? on: December 30, 2005 03:10:17 AM
This idea was brought up in a previous post and I thought it would be quite a fun swap to do.

This swap would run like a contest:
People are paired up and a theme is set.  Each person crafts something based on that theme and sends it to their partner.  When each person receives they post pictures.  The other participants will vote for their favourite items.  The winner in each pair will go through to the next round (those who get knocked out will still need to vote in the rounds that follow).  The remaining participants would be paired up again and a new theme given.  This would continue until one person is left.

I think the idea would be a lot of fun but I'm worried that people won't like the voting/getting knocked out part.
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Cheers Santa! on: December 29, 2005 05:29:05 PM
Santa was especially kind and generous this year.  He gave me loads of pretty beads.  Here are a few of the things I've made with them so far:

memory wire bracelet with moonstone.

memory wire bracelet with dyed frosted quartz.

memory wire cuff - my favourite  =)

memory wire cuff.

necklace.

I've got quite a massive stash of beads now, not that I'm complaining.
Thanks Santa for keeping me busy.  I'm looking forward to next year  =)

Looking for one fabulous person to send a cd to Dynamine.  Here is the information she provided for the swap:

username: dynamine
country: usa
preferred format: either mp3 cd or regular cd is fine
favourite bands/artists:
siouxsie & the banshees
dead can dance/lisa gerrard

johnny cash
edith piaf
strawberry switchblade
cocteau twins
billy childish/thee headcoats/headcoatees

i would like to receive:
hmm...i'd like to receive good vintage jazz, mellow indie rock, happy indie/twee pop a la pipas/belle & sebastian/dressy bessy/heavenly, something that you absolutely have to share 'cos it's that good.

these people make sounds similar to what i'd like to receive:
the decemberists--i've heard some, but own none, palace--i have quite a bit of 'bonnie' prince billy, but no palace, the aforementioned twee folks, cab calloway, annette hanshaw.

It will be greatly appreciated if anyone can help out.  Thanks.

Can't wait to see what you all send  =)
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / My un-halloween jewellery on: October 31, 2005 05:57:56 PM
The only thing I hate about Halloween is the fact that every year I have to think of a costume to wear and every year I fail.  This year I decided to be myself (again... although someone did say I looked like Pocahontas   Huh) so I made myself these lovelies to wear:

A long necklace

and a bracelet

I love the beads I used for these.  There are 2 different colours of beads in 2 sizes (10mm in the necklace and 8mm in the bracelet).  I also used black and bright blue chain (the colour of the blue chain is amazing.  It's a lot brighter than it looks in the picture) which I love at the moment.
I got a few compliments which I was very happy about  =)

Also while I'm here I'll post a picture of another necklace I made:

This is one huge necklace!  It goes around my neck 4 times and would manage a 5th time if I put a clasp on it.  It looks great worn around my wrist too  =)
9  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / UK Christmas swap =) on: October 22, 2005 07:03:55 AM
There is another UK swap:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=59497.msg562011#msg562011

This is a Christmas gift swap.  You will receive one Christmas gift (or more depending on how many you send) to be opened on Christmas day.

Hope to see some of you there  =)
10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / UK "Dear Santa" Swap. CLOSED Send by: 17TH DEC on: October 22, 2005 06:28:37 AM
Swap name: UK "DEAR SANTA" SWAP
Craftster member who is organizing this swap:  PURPLEFLUFFYCOW
Sign-up date range: 22ND OCT - 5TH NOV
Wish choice period: 5TH NOV - 12TH NOV
Date to send item by: 17TH DEC

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional):  NO

Non-U.S. participants allowed? UK ONLY

All ages allowed? Or 18+? ALL AGES

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:

Everyone loves receiving gifts at Christmas so what could be better than receiving gifts from your very own 'Craftster Santa'  Cheesy

How it works:

1-  If you want to join then send me this information:

Name of swap:  UK "DEAR SANTA" SWAP
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Maximum number of gifts you want to send:

2- Post a list of wishes when you have been approved and your name appears on the list of participants (unless you are 100% sure that you meet all of the requirements for swap participation).  This can be as long as you want but try to make it 5 or more wishes.  If you get stuck you can add options like 'suprise me'.  You can also add things to it until sign ups have closed.

Please highlight your wish post in Blue.

Please make sure your list has been posted by the 5th November.

3-  When sign ups have closed there will be 1 week for participants to choose what they would like to send.  I will post more information about this later in the swap.  Please make sure that you send your choices to me by the 12th November.

4-  After the 12th November I will let everyone know who they are sending to.  Everyone will receive from the same amount of people as they send to.

5-  You will then have until 17th December to make and send your gift(s).  Make sure you remember to wrap them ready to go under the tree  =)

6-  And the final step which is also probably the hardest  Cheesy  The aim of the swap is to wait until Christmas Day to open your gift(s).  NO PEEKING ALLOWED!  Cheesy  Hopefully we will be able to stick to this  Wink

Because of the long crafting period I will be sending out 1 message weekly.  During the last week I may send more.  It would be very helpful to me if you could reply to the messages (just a one word message will be fine) or just post here once a week with random comments.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

If you have any questions then please ask =)

Choosing Who To Send To (5th - 12th November):

Send me a list of the people you want to send to and what you want to send to them (You can choose to send more than one wish to a person but this will count as 1 gift).

Depending on how things work out you might not send to everyone on the list, so try to write down more than the number you want to send (I'll make sure I don't give you more partners than you want).  The more choices you have the easier it will be to match you up.

Write your list in order of preference, so the wish you want to fulfill the most is at the top.

When I have received all of the choices I'll match you all up so that you will be receiving the same number of gifts as you will be sending.

Here's an example of how to write your lists:

Max number of gifts to send:  2

1-  Person A - bag
2-  Person B - necklace, scarf, hat
3-  Person c - bag, beads

(both choices 2 & 3 would count as 1 gift)

If you are wanting to make an item for PurpleFluffyCow, then between the 5th and 12th of november (Deciding period) PM your list to PurpleFluffyCow, and if there are items on there for her, don't describe the item. Then PM PurpleHeather with the item that you want to make for PFC, and the number it appears in your list, for example:

PM to PurpleFluffyCow:
1. A scarf for Nushy
2. A hat for Sasha
3. An item for PurpleFluffyCow
4. A bag for Jojo9

PM to PurpleHeather:
I would like to make PurpleFluffyCow a stuffie, and it is number 3 on my list.  I want to fulfil 3 wishes in total.

We will liase to make sure that you get the right number of wishes fulfilled.
