1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mid-East/North Africa OR India OR Ancient Civ? on: December 12, 2008 10:03:16 AM
Is anybody interested in doing a swap in one of the following themes?

-Middle East/North Africa
-India
-Ancient Civilizations (ie Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Celtic, Chinese)

I may be able to organize, but am just gauging interest at this point as I'm still trying to figure out what my schedule for next semester will be like. Therefore, if anyone else wants to jump in and organize, I won't be offended. Smiley
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Crafty Detective Round 5? on: December 12, 2008 08:26:58 AM
I participated in round 2 and had a lot of fun... I'd like to do another but I'm not sure just now whether I'll have the time to organize (the previous rounds have had a lot of participants). So, is anyone else interested in another go? Anyone willing to organize?
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Pin-up Girl or Femme Fatale? on: October 15, 2007 07:18:10 PM
Hi!

So I've been thinking about going as either a retro pin-up girl or a film noir femme fatale for Halloween.  I know how I could do the basic outfit--40's or 50's style dress and makeup--but how do I make it look like a costume, rather than just a vintage inspired ensemble?  What can I do to make the costume, so to speak?

Any ideas are much appreciated!
4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Your favorite soap-making supplies? on: March 13, 2007 05:53:18 PM
I'm relatively new at soap-making, but now that I've got the basics down am looking at quality of supplies.  I'd love to get a discussion going about favorite supply brands and suppliers.  So tell me:

What do you think is the best M&P base?
Best rebatch soap base?
Who makes your favorite colorants?
Who makes your favorite frangrance oils?
Where do you buy your supplies and why?

Thanks!

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Owl Coasters on: February 02, 2007 04:04:40 PM
I did these coasters for round 2 of the owl swap, and just thought I'd share.  Tell me what you think!

They're made from 4in x 4in marble tiles I picked up at home depot.  I did acrylic gel medium transfers using images copied out of Dover's Birds of Prey coloring book(http://store.doverpublications.com/0486259897.html), then coated the tiles with Varathane polyurathane wood sealant.  I had a lot of trouble with bubbles in the sealant, unfortunately, but you can't see them in these pictures.  Finally, I glued cork onto the backs!

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Birds? Trees? Fairy Tales? on: January 22, 2007 11:38:48 AM
I missed the recent swaps for Birds Are Beautiful, Trees, and Fairy Tales, about which I am very sad  Cry ...any one interested in another round of one of these?  Which one?

I can organize, but not until the end of February (I'm organizing my first swap right now and don't want to take on too much).  However, I'd definitely join if someone else wanted to organize!
8  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Celtic/Norse Themed Swap - Sign-Ups 8 JAN to 22 JAN, Send-Outs 19 FEB on: January 08, 2007 06:28:48 PM
Just a reminder that your crafts for the Celtic/Norse swap are due out in one week, February 19th.  If you're going to be late, that's fine, but you must communicate as much with both me and with your partner.

For those of you who want to send early, please remember that you need to get delivery confirmation when sending within your own country.  If sending internationally, you must save your receipt to prove that you did actually send.

Since we already have someone who shipped their swap, I set up a gallery here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=152107.0
I will be keeping track of send-outs there.

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Celtic/Nordic Themed Swap? on: November 24, 2006 08:02:09 PM
The swap is now live!! Here it is:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=144358.0

About the definitions of "Celtic" and "Nordic;" I realize those are very loose terms, each used to describe several groups of people united by language similarities.  The Celts and the Norse were quite different, but I think putting them together in a swap is okay, as it will give the swapper more options.  I'm not going to be anal about accuracy  --  Just as long as you know the difference between the Celts of history and the Boston Celtics, and realize that the Hagar the Horrible comic strip doesn't count as Norse art.  Grin

Here are some links to websites that I found.  So read, brainstorm, and share ideas, and maybe we'll all come out of this having learned something!

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Tree Swap? on: October 31, 2006 04:05:01 PM
I was just looking at all the gorgeous crafts for the tree swap from last spring, and I'm sorry I missed it!  Is anybody interested in doing another round of it?

I can't lead swaps yet, otherwise I'd volunteer to do it.  But I'd love to participate!
