I love those...I can't believe I never thought of it...I like the idea of a little tulle window so the cashier can see what you have put in there....

That is REALLY good for you to have just started sewing. Are you sure you weren't a seamstress in a past life? I've been sewing a year and I can't make my stuff look that perfect.

Ditto! I've been sewing since i was 9, and my stuff doesn't look that nice...good job

I have made grocery totes from the top part of jeans (usually the part that has the pockets and the fly and all that) and sewing a double ended teardrop bottom or just squaring off the bottoms and adding straps.  I made 6 for me and like 3 for another friend, but I think I need to make more, because my dh and I keep forgetting to to put them back in the car and end up with plastic bags at the end of it.  Our stores here starting to sell reuseable bags for $1, but the fabric is that cheapy feeling mesh type stuff that I just KNOW would break loose after the first time I used it.  I may just buy one so I can make a pattern off it, because the jeans ones seem to be a bit off....

excellent job on the totebags...

to the person who wanted to know what they could do to get rid of plastic bags....there is a material called Polyurethane Laminate (PUL for short) that can be used, I made what was essentially a bin liner out of the stuff for my daughter's diaper pail so I could just toss it in the wash with her diapers...not sure how that would work for trash though...I know some people reuse their trash bags and only throw them in the dump when they get nasty....I can't do that here because our managers require all trash to be in bags in the dumpster...
