1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / What can you do to make a transcontinental move cheaper? on: March 02, 2010 07:38:32 AM
Hi. I'm not sure if this topic should go in just this category, seeing as it probably applies to a few different ones, but it fits here.
I am going to move myself and my 19 month old daughter from the coast of NC to the state of Washington this summer. I wish to ship as little as possible, so thrift stores will be my primary source of furniture and other housewares that will not fit into my car, and whatever little bit I absolutely wish to ship(think fabric, dressform, and whatever else might fit on a pallet of essential items.)
I am assuming I will be renting either a two bedroom apartment, or a one bedroom in which my daughter gets the bedroom, and I sleep on a futon couch, my dining table will double as a crafting table/schoolwork desk, and my bedroom will double as a living room.
Has anyone come across any great ideas for pulling off furniture on the cheap, like cheaper than thrift store? Or any great ideas for disguising a bedroom within a living room?
Or any great advice for moving 3,000 miles in general when you are a craft-addict?
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Lingerie Shower? on: December 04, 2008 08:51:41 PM
I'm a maid of honor for my best freind... and she wants me to throw her a lingerie shower(her three sisters have the bridal shower taken care of!)... now normally I'd have all sorts of ideas, but I'm not sure how to keep it from getting too racy or tasteless.
Has anyone here ever been to a lingerie shower, or have any decent ideas for decorating and party favors besides potpourri sacks?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby girl outfits(img heavy) on: September 17, 2008 12:31:16 PM
Normally I never get around to sewing much of anything that gets completed, because I work so much and lose inspiration if I cannot finish a project within a suitable amount of time, but my maternity leave has left major time for finally getting to sew anything I want!
These are two dress outfits I made for my daughter:

and the third of its kind:

And this I made from a really old pattern I had laying around-- The funny thing is, I made it in the week before my daughter was born(her birthdate is 08-08-08, isnt that so cool?!), and the pattern wanted me to "measure around baby's arm to gather sleeve."
Now how you do that when the baby is still inside? first you get made you didn't read all of the diretions before you started and then you calm down and look in newer patterns until you find one that has the same sleeve style with a sleeve guide-- and pray.

This one I did a few days ago, and I cut it to a size six monthsfor her to wear to her cousins birthday party next week, which is funny becuase she is only just barely a month and a half now!

I have more- I really must get to taking pictures! (I'm sorry if this post is long winded, I've only ever had the courage to post replys to others work, so I'm a little nervous about showing my own!)
