1  UNITED STATES / Indiana / Indy Modern Quilt Guild - Meeting/Sewing Session March 20! on: March 09, 2010 06:51:04 AM
IMQG meeting and sewing session
2-4 or 5 pm
Harrison Center for the Arts
1505 N Delaware Street
Indianapolis, IN 46202

http://indymqg.ning.com

Bring 5 dollars, your sewing gear and whatever project you'd like to work on. If this is your first meeting, it is free!

IMPORTANT! There is only ONE door from which you will be able to enter the building. It is facing Delaware Street. Walk through the courtyard, past the sweater tree. It is NOT the door that says Gallery No.2. It is the door closest to the Church. If the doors are locked there is a buzzer for the Harrison Center and someone should be able to let you in. Or you can call me at 317 658 6088 and I can come open the door for you. Follow the signs in the building down to the Underground room. If you have a power strip or extension cord, you may want to bring it. I will have a few available. Hope to see you there!

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / modern quilt guilds starting all over the place! on: January 20, 2010 09:29:48 AM

Alissa of http://handmadebyalissa.com has been working on growing her LA modern quilt guild into a national movement of modern quilt guilds nationwide.  She has started a new site to help others start branches in their own city at http://themodernquiltguild.com/.

I decided I wanted to start an Indianapolis branch - personally, I'd love the opportunity to meet other modern quilters in the area and meet once or twice a month.   You can find more information at http://indymqg.ning.com/ .  I will be posting information on our first meeting soon, and would love to have anyone interested in the Indianapolis area join us. Beginners are welcome!

What is modern quilting?  According to The Modern Quilt Guild:
Quote
The concept of modern quilting is not meant to divide or segregate. It is meant to welcome new quilters, of all ages, to the world of quilting in a style that they can relate to. In many ways, modern quilting takes us back to the basics of the early quilters, when women of the day used the colors and styles of their time to express themselves creatively.

There are branches starting all over the country, so even if you are not in Indianapolis, check out the http://themodernquiltguild.com member guild links and find (or start) one in your area!

this is GORGEOUS.  I saw this on the sew mama sew blog (well the tut anyway) and I wanted to do it, but I'm lazy.  Good work!

thanks!  I need to start making something other than oh fransson patterns, this is my second one!  I'm going to try to make the time to do a quilt for my dad for xmas, I have the idea in my head...just need to execute!

Very pretty! Smiley

Those are pockets right? (I haven't looked at the tute link). What are you going to put in them?

Yes!  I forgot to mention it, they are all little pockets.  I'm going to probably fill them with candy or other little treats for my niece so she will have something fun to countdown to Christmas!

I hit this rocks for you!
I really like that this quilt tells a story, it really reminds me of early american folk art quilts.  You did a great job making something very unique!
