1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Making a hat for a two year old on: March 22, 2008 11:53:22 AM
How big is a two year old's head?! Do I make an adult size or a baby size?
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Making a sweater without knowing measurements on: March 19, 2008 02:05:46 PM
I would like to make a sweater for my mom for Christmas but she lives far away so I can't snoop through her clothes and I would like it to be a surprise so I can't ask her. She is a tricky shape though; depending on the brand I have seen her wear anything from a 2 to a 10. She's probably a 6 or an 8 on average, she just has to bump up sometimes because she's "well endowed". I didn't inherit her boobs so I don't know how to work with knitting around them...

Anyway, this is a roundabout way of asking what type of sweater I should make. I was thinking a wrap sweater, but I wanted some feedback about whether this would be appropriate for her body type and how to guess the right size to knit.

I was thinking of knitty's IVY http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/PATTivy.html
but I'm not quite sure I'm ready for the world of cables...
3  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Now complete!! Help on Kittyville hat on: March 11, 2008 12:24:24 AM
It's my first project in the round and I am getting nervous. I've already had to restart five times or so and I really don't want to screw up and have to cast on another 84 stitches....  Embarrassed
When it says to put stitch markers every 12 stitches, is that during or after the first 3 3/4" I do in St st?
Do I start decreasing right away, I guess is the right question.

Edit:

Here is the finished hat! I am so stoked, I did I-cord and magic loop for the first time too!!

Yes, I am wearing clothes. And I'm paranoid about revealing myself to the internet...

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Hooray! My first non-rectangular object! (Knitty Anna Top) on: March 08, 2008 02:37:48 PM
I lie, this is actually my second non-rectangular object. As I was making my first bikini top, I decided that the cup size looked way too big, made it a good 12 stitches smaller, and therefore made something much too vulgar for these parts of the internets.

Don't mind the provocatively placed spittle on the mirror

from http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer03/PATTtwins.html

It's made out of some acrylic that I'm guessing is about 25 years old (I picked it up at the bf's grandma's).

I want to make bottoms, but all of the patterns I've seen are brief style and I don't want to make briefs because a) I don't want to deal with fitting them and b) I think they look hideous on me. Does anyone know a free pattern for string bikini bottoms, or have any advice? I'd like to make them to (somewhat) match the top.
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Reversing a Pattern... Hello Kitty scarf on: March 08, 2008 12:23:54 PM
I am making a scarf from these two patterns:

http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&faqKey=272

My plans are to have a Hello Kitty on each end and Sugar Cubes in between. However, when I get to the end, I want to knit the Hello Kitty from top down, instead of from bottom up (which is how the pattern is laid out). Do I just need to start from stitch 55 and work backwards? My biggest fear is that I will end up with Hello Kitty on the wrong side and I lack the skills to be able to back up and fix it.
6  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Queen of hearts bikini, sans hearts on: February 29, 2008 10:26:40 AM
So I bought Stitch n Bitch after deciding I was going to graduate from knitting to purling and all the rest. After mastering (or so I think) the techniques, I thought I'd shoot for the Queen of hearts bikini top. But for some reason, it turned out like this:

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v175/tenfoot/?action=view&current=bikini.jpg

The string coming out of the top leads to the ball of yarn... that's where I'm supposed to crochet the strap?Huh It's pretty obvious I did something wrong, but I don't know what. Is it because I left out the hearts? I didn't understand that part of the pattern (nor did I want hearts on my nipples). Help? How do I get from manta ray to bikini cup?
