11  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / laughing cow containers? on: March 06, 2010 11:07:55 AM
I keep thinking there must be something I can do with these things...I'm just not thinking outside the box on this one!
12  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / applique on a backpack (large image, sorry!) on: December 31, 2009 06:57:48 AM
I am not sure this goes here...but it fits better than other categories.

I did NOT make the backpack. We bought a ton of these many years ago (dd#1 took one to K...and she is almost 21) and still have a few floating around.

I put this applique on the backpack for a guy friend of dd#1 at college. I wasn't sure what else a guy would like that was not too personal (especially from a friend's MOM!).

He likes Celtic Crosses...but I didn't want to spend forever doing the weaving of a design, so I went this route. I doodled this up and did it mostly freehand. My applique did a little twisting *sigh* but overall I'm pleased and I've been reassured that he will like it.

Thanks for looking Smiley

13  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / soaping again :) on: November 02, 2009 10:55:31 AM
I haven't made soap for months and months. I had to get some CP soap made for the holidays coming up so I pushed myself to get some done. I had the soap fairy visit on Monday Sad but I think we survived the visit and this is what I came up with:

top row: fresh laundry, three kings, lavender lane

bottom row: sandalwood/vanilla, mandarin spice, orchard breeze, oats n' honey

Since I hadn't soaped in so long, some of my shea butter and all my mango butter was bad - phew - stinky! I am out of cocoa butter now and will need to reorder some other supplies, BUT I didn't have to buy much at all to crank out 7 batches.

Does anyone have any guesses as to why my sandalwood/vanilla would have dark spots in it (hardly noticeable in this pic)? The only thing I did differently was to add some silk...could that cause really dark brown spots? It doesn't smell funny and it isn't oozing...

14  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / two doll quilts on: September 01, 2009 05:43:22 AM
I participated in two different doll quilt swaps on the internet...from different sites...and produced these two quilts:

This one was for my sister (how cool is that? I got her name!) She loves pinwheels and I chose colors that are prevalent in her sewing room/family room (same room). The blocks are 4" so the pinwheels are 2"

this is a stack and whack that I had to do a lot of math on to shrink it down (the blocks are 2 1/2") to doll quilt size.

15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / The "I Devour Books" bag for dd on: July 31, 2009 07:14:14 AM

my dd fell in love with this purse (that I made)

but she doesn't like to carry a purse. She DETESTS carrying a purse

So for her 16th birthday, I made her a book bag:

and a wee bit closer:

I forgot to take pictures of the inside, which I lined with a dinosaur themed fabric and the pocket on the back with a parasaulophus (her favorite dino)...and she took off this morning to help decorate for VBS, taking the bag with her (how dare she when I needed another picture or two?Huh).

She loves it Smiley *WHEW!* it is not always easy to please the teen Wink

16  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / how to make a poster/banner???? on: July 27, 2009 08:06:16 PM
I am trying to make a poster/banner and I know that our first computer (or two) had software that figured out the way to tile for posters/banners and all I had to do was figure out size and what I wanted on it...

Is there some way to do this now? I can't seem to get my office software to co-operate and printmaster closes every time I try to search out answers *sigh*

17  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / hope this is the right forum...a scent? on: June 15, 2009 11:42:31 AM
does anyone know if you can make a refill scent for the Bath and Body Works Wallflowers? I hate to throw those heavy bulbs away every time I change them, I make soaps and lotions so I have some yummy scents...but I'm not sure if I can make my own refill?

any help would be greatly appreciated Smiley

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / two swimsuits on: June 13, 2009 02:42:25 PM
I'm not excited about how I look in a swimsuit (I need to shed a few pounds  ) but I made one for me and one for my dd who is embarrassed to be seen in anything that isn't layered and very loose...and we both like fairly modest suits - with an inseam!

Please excuse the fuzzy pictures, I'm not re-taking them

This one is mine. A two-piece. I made a shorts style bottom from a "modest" swimwear pattern and the top is a vintage swimdress pattern that has princess seams and vents front and back.

this one is my dd's. She asked to be decapitated for sharing the picture  Grin Hers is a mixture of shorts bottom from that same "modest" swimwear pattern and a bodice modified from a vintage pattern.

C & C welcome.

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Monster Purse - monster pictures on: May 16, 2009 07:13:05 AM
This was for the Fill a Purse Swap Smiley My partner emphasized her love for monster purses in her questionnaire, so I made this purse and accessories to accommodate that love. I had the green monster fabric in my stash and the rest just came together from there.

I did not use a pattern. I just measured, cut and sewed - well, I did do some quilting in between there. The purse has a bunch of pockets inside and out (I love pockets in purses).

I put my name inside - I'm still not confident enough to put my name on the outside of purses...

all the fillers...a small project bag, a small wallet w/ID slot (and three pockets - one of which has a zipper), a tea wallet, and a tissue pouch were the coordinates I made to go along with the purse.

20  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Spring doll quilt - pics on: March 07, 2009 09:40:47 AM
I am in a Spring Doll Quilt Swap on another forum/board and wanted to share my creation with y'alls Smiley

She mentioned some flowers in her questionnaire, so I found this pattern (in dreary CW fabrics) and brightened it up for spring, using a WOW for the background and some snippets of my hand dyes and some commercial batiks...

I had some fun with the quilting, I did McTavishing in everyplace that was white and the back turned out just as lovely (IMO) as the front. I hope this picture shows it well enough:

The quilt is 17" X 21" total Smiley All done by machine except for the pesky bit of sewing the binding down.
