311  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: The Stars Sing - images on: April 23, 2008 03:31:35 PM
I will admit that I do have a 17" long arm on my quilting machine, mounted on a frame. Otherwise I would have been sending out something this large!!!!

This quilt is based on a pattern by Judy Martin.

I've never made a quilt so big before - it took up my whole quilting frame! And it was a bear to finish piecing the top - it was SO big (and my sewing cabinet is NOT).

96" X 96"
cotton fabrics
cotton batt
machine quilted (by me!)

Thanks for looking!

put some good music on in the background to help you get a rhythm going.

I'm a die-hard quilter and I say - they are yours to do with as you please. I would use them in a quilt project, but I am not YOU so we don't have to have the same creative vision Smiley

Thank your mom politely for her opinion and go on your merry way!

Did you sew it all at once with the binding, or in 2 separate steps?

I use Ricky Tims' method - you sew the piping to the center of the binding, sew the binding on the back of the quilt, pull it around to the front, miter the corners, and sew between the piping and the binding and you are done! The piping doesn't shift because it is part of the binding Smiley

Clear as mud?

JOY - who always uses this method - I avoid handwork like the plague!

oh, yes, this is hard to ship off, I might just make one for myself Wink I'll have to see if the LQS has more of that border stripe, though!

I did the quilting free motion on my regular sewing machine. For bigger quilts, I have a quilting machine...I just couldn't see putting this sweet little thing on the 10' frame! It would have taken longer to load than to quilt!

I made this quilt for a swap (elsewhere) and just finished it up today Smiley I used cotton fabrics, cotton batt, machine pieced and quilted. Dimensions are 21 X 25 1/2"

I love the colors you used!

That was the hard part, trying to find colors that looked good together from the limited selection at Dollar Tree! They didn't have a large selection of tea towels that coordinated  Tongue

my daughter would love these! Her arms are always too long for store bought shirts...

thanks for the kudos Smiley

I was a bit nervous with my first challenge as I've seen some wonderfully creative stuff posted on here (from my lurking days until now) and didn't know how I'd stack up with such creative minds!
