21  Monster Purse - monster pictures in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by shout4joy on: May 16, 2009 07:13:05 AM
This was for the Fill a Purse Swap Smiley My partner emphasized her love for monster purses in her questionnaire, so I made this purse and accessories to accommodate that love. I had the green monster fabric in my stash and the rest just came together from there.

I did not use a pattern. I just measured, cut and sewed - well, I did do some quilting in between there. The purse has a bunch of pockets inside and out (I love pockets in purses).

I put my name inside - I'm still not confident enough to put my name on the outside of purses...

all the fillers...a small project bag, a small wallet w/ID slot (and three pockets - one of which has a zipper), a tea wallet, and a tissue pouch were the coordinates I made to go along with the purse.

Enjoy!

I received a LOVELY package yesterday ~ here it is in all it's glory!

here is the whole kit and kaboodle

Purse, Boston Baked Beans (loved these - they are gone already!), Andes Candies (the children want them!), tissue pouch and extra tissue fillers, matching key fob, cute little snap bag (with mints hiding inside!) and some hand sanitizer (perfect for flu scares and general cleaning up on the go!) See just the fillers below:

The purse is really lovely ~ a green damask in a really cute shape (from my wists) with a dark red/burgundy lining. It has a nice long strap so I can wear it across my body.

There are pockets to help me keep my stuff organized, a zip pocket and some open top pockets and pen/pencil slots and a D ring on which to hook my key fob  ~ sorry these pictures are so dark and off color (the lining is NOT purple!), the camera just had a hard time with the inside of the purse!

Thank you very much Faux_Valentine! It was a great package!!!

there was a triptych of cards inside the bundle Smiley Very lovely!

28  Spring doll quilt - pics in Quilting: Completed Projects by shout4joy on: March 07, 2009 09:40:47 AM
I am in a Spring Doll Quilt Swap on another forum/board and wanted to share my creation with y'alls Smiley

She mentioned some flowers in her questionnaire, so I found this pattern (in dreary CW fabrics) and brightened it up for spring, using a WOW for the background and some snippets of my hand dyes and some commercial batiks...

I had some fun with the quilting, I did McTavishing in everyplace that was white and the back turned out just as lovely (IMO) as the front. I hope this picture shows it well enough:

The quilt is 17" X 21" total Smiley All done by machine except for the pesky bit of sewing the binding down.

29  Weekenders over the weekend in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by shout4joy on: February 18, 2009 06:44:34 PM
over the long holiday weekend, I went to my sister's house. The two of us, together with my mom, made Amy Butler Weekender bags...

My mom used a floral and a striped home dec fabric she found at two different stores, my sis used an Ikea fabric along with a gingham home dec fabric she had, I used striped denim and a toile home dec that I found...

I can tell you that I would NOT have finished my tote if I hadn't been working with mom and sis. I would have set the thing aside and let it mature a lllloooonnnnggg time before finishing it! I sewed through my finger, cut one piece upside down, sewed another piece in upside down...

I'm happy with the results - but *I* know where every little flaw happens to be!

30  Challenge 1: *Hippie Soap* in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by shout4joy on: February 18, 2009 01:05:46 PM
My unusual ingredient was Hemp Seed Oil. Since I frequent the health food store and buy lots of oddball things (according to my family) I had purchased this for some healthy recipe or another (and forgot which one by the time I got home).

I usually soap with the basics: coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil and maybe lard. I throw in some shea or cocoa butter, too. But I really don't get into experimenting with other oils (they just aren't readily available in NW PA).

I received a sample of a lovely Raspberry Patchouli FO that was enough to make up a batch of soap and as I was gathering ingredients I saw the Hemp Seed Oil in my 'frig and just KNEW that it went with Patchouli...and soaped it up (hemp is only part of the total oils in my soap, not 100%). I also felt the soap needed to be swirlie to go with the hippie theme, so I swirled with Red Oxide and Gold Mica (first try with the mica for me).

I wish y'alls could smell this - it is heavenly (IMO). I think I'll be using it for a while as a sachet before using it as soap!
