2001  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re:stem glass markers on: January 30, 2004 02:25:11 PM
I so love the idea of stem markers...  if only I were young enough to drink or my parents did!
2002  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:HELP on: January 30, 2004 02:10:01 PM
first of all, it's really hard to learn how to knit without having someone show you.  if you know anyone who knits, I'd reccomend you ask them (nicely) to show you how.  I didn't have anyone, and it was pretty hard sometimes.

http://www.stitchguide.com/  is a really good site.  go look at your public library, I'm sure there's lots of books.

Here are some more sites I found when I did a yahoo search.  they all look pretty useful.

edit because apparently look is spelled "lok" now...  heh.
2003  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re:Chinese Papercuts on: January 30, 2004 01:56:33 PM
my mom picked some up when we went to china, but they were people.  she just framed them.

I think they'd look awesome as a journal cover, especially if you layered it with some silk underneith....  *drool*

this reminds me, one of those paper cuts was this really cool looking girl...  must remember to convince my mom to give it to me!
2004  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re:tin foil from hershey kisses on: January 30, 2004 01:54:14 PM
actually, unfortunitly, the silver part from gum wrappers only stick by themselves because it's still still sticky from the glue that was holding it to the paper.  so, hersey's wrappers won't do that.

BUT.....  I have successfully used them to cover notebooks.  you just have to use double stick tape or the like.  (elmers tended to peel off.  I would have tried other types of glue, but I had double stick tape handy and was impatient to boot.)
2005  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re:more altoid tin art on: January 29, 2004 03:26:14 PM
those are great!  I really like the one with cards about you.  that's a really cute idea.

oh, and I'd love some tins!  I've been wantign to ask if anyone had any, but I was too afraid I'd sound greedy.  I just plain don't like altoids and don't know anyone who does!  I'd be glad to pay for shipping.  I wouldn't need too many.  I'll e-mail you.
2006  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re:Metal Lunchbox Purse? on: January 28, 2004 08:51:54 PM
I must second the fur lining.  I did that to my pink panther lunch box purse, oh, I think about two years ago.  I got the fur as a little half price reminent.  everyone thought it was awesome.

I also second nylon webbing.  that's what I replaced the strap on mine with (it was made for kids, so it had this aweful little fake patent leather strap...  god, it was horrible), and it help up great!
2007  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re:Pin-up Purse on: January 28, 2004 08:47:39 PM
so cute!  you did a splendid job.  I really liked the circle one.  but then, I'm more of a circle girl.  if I had the guts to walk around with a pin-up girl purse, I'd have to make one!  maybe a nice storage box will be in order...

oh, and one of the reasons I love this site is that you can see what other people are making, say "oh, what a great idea!" and then go and make your own version.  that's why I love you guys.    Cheesy
2008  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Re:Detroit crafters? on: January 28, 2004 08:41:22 PM
aww, now I so wish that I had a car here!  too bad, maybe in the summer I can join in.
2009  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re:First Quilt, I'm a proud girly! on: January 27, 2004 06:27:20 PM
I made a really simple quilt in a week or two for my friend for christmas.  it didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but it was still cool.  that reminds me, I must take a picture of it next time I'm over there...
2010  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re:valentine crafts on: January 27, 2004 06:19:12 PM
hey, valentine's day is right after my and my boy's eight month mark!  what a coink-ki-dink!

I'm making my boy (hopefully!) a little photo album with some pictures of us from my birthday in it.  he has all these random photos that he has nothing to do with.  so, hopefully that will solve that!  he's also getting this cute little book I saw that's the world's history, only taken as quotes out of freshman test essays.  it's really funny, and he loves history.

I personally think that gifts are the best if they're what you really want.  I always just try and look at the person and see exactly what fits them, instead of what other people think should fit them.  even if the gift is very not appropriate for the holiday.  lol

good luck!
