11  Re: Elements Swap Round 2 Gallery of Elemental Glory in The Swap Gallery by saxonsweetie on: September 09, 2009 06:22:42 PM
I got my package! Yay! Evilsarah spoiled me rotten! Here's the loot:

A new iron? Couldn't be....

It isn't! It's way more awesome than a new iron! Lovely earrings to represent air:

A beautiful incense burner... which looks like swirling seas!

A closer look (which still doesn't do it justice)

A beautiful planter (how did you know I had drooled over this?)

A super-awesome steel water bottle. I have wanted one of these for a long time... now I have one! And it's way better than the plain ones on TV!

And these great votive candleholders that have been etched with flames!

Action shot!

Thank you for all the great stuff!!!

12  What I did at my first anime (mini)convention in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by saxonsweetie on: September 09, 2009 06:02:01 PM
I'm not really into anime. My sister really digs it though, so I took her to her very first convention for her birthday. She had some friends from school meeting her, so there was really no point in hanging out. So I sat at the kids' table and learned to do origami!

It's a penguin!

Now it's a samurai penguin!

13  Ponytail hat in Crochet: Completed Projects by saxonsweetie on: August 09, 2009 09:48:41 AM
I know it's a little warm for this, but I was cleaning out my craft room and found this neat-o little hat I made last year and also remembered that I have a camera now, so here are the pics!

The finished product:

I have pretty long, thick hair, and I work with little kids, so I usually keep it pulled up into a ponytail. We have to go outside every day for and hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, even when it's really cold. I got tired of my hats not fitting right because of my giant ponytail, so I whipped up this little number to make room for it!

A close up of the little bow:

14  Made with blood, sweat, tears... and diapers! (pic heavy) in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by saxonsweetie on: August 05, 2009 02:53:38 PM
Well, mostly just diapers and ribbons  Wink

Here is the final project:

I had some WIP pics, but thanks to my little helpers, pictured here:

All my WIP pics got deleted when my camera got thrown on the floor. Fortunately, the camera recovered.

A closer look at the topper:

The colors are truer in this pic.

Tip: try not to have kids in your house or a raging migrane while you are making your very first one. I was all excited about this, went and bought my coordinating ribbon and all that jazz, then when I got home and opened the diapers, I discovered that every other one was plain and the others hade green and orange stripes. Great. Orange doesn't go with the stuff I bought AT ALL and now this dumb thing has reached a whole new layer of crazy because I have to pay attention to the diaper pattern. Meanwhile, the kids are arguing over who has the most Magic the Gathering cards (yup, the kiddos are geeks) and my cat pulls the piping hot hot glue gun onto my foot (that reminds me, I need to go unplug it!).

Also, a lot of the tutorials I read suggest using rubber bands to hold the whole mess together until you get the ribbon on. I would reccommed using yarn or string. That way, you can slide the diapers around if you need to adjust them and you don't have to fight with the rubber band.

I am going to go put this thing in my truck so no one can knock it over or bother it. On the plus side, if I have to make another one, it shouldn't be as tough!

Edit:
Just one more pic to show the colors a little better:

C&C always welcome!

15  Re: zombies, zombies, and zombies, oh my!...ideas needed in Halloween Costumes by saxonsweetie on: August 04, 2009 05:43:49 PM
Sweet makeup! My friends and I did a Zombie Lurch last year in Durham, NC (so fun!) and we used rice crispies coated with liquid latex and then painted to look like crusty old scabs and congealed blood. If you want a good blood splatter, get someone to spit fake blood on you. Here is a pic from that day:

I am in the blue sweatshirt. This pic really doesn't show the make-up too well, but it was the best I could find. My son's came out great. I wish I had a good picture of all the matted up goo I put in his hair (poor kid).

Your stuff really looks amazing! I can't get over the fact that you just turned that out in five minutes. Great job!

16  Sugar scrubs... super sweet! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by saxonsweetie on: July 31, 2009 02:37:47 PM
I was playing around with some gift ideas for some of the women in my family for the holidays, and I decided to throw together a sugar scrub! So sweet, so simple, and SO much cheaper than you can get at Bath and Body Works!

The blue one is eucalyptus and the orange-ish one is mango smoothie. Yum!

UPDATE!!!

I made a new one!

As you can (probably) tell by the label, this one is coconut cream... complete with poorly drawn coconut!

Scrubalicious!!!

20  On the tree of life bandwagon (pic heavy) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by saxonsweetie on: July 25, 2009 01:45:41 PM
After seeing so many lovely tree of life pendants here on craftster, I thought... hmmm, I would like to try that! So, I tried it, and I rather liked it! I have gotten a lot of complements on these, so thanks for the inspiration!!!!

This one was made with leftover amber beads that my husband gave me as my Morgangebba (morning gift) after our wedding. The giving and recieving of this gift (and the pronouncement by our alderman) officially made us husband and wife, so it has a lot of significance for me.

The rest of them are just pretty!
