1  Paint Chairs Green or Brown? in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by meg461 on: May 09, 2008 02:34:33 PM
Hey everyone,
So I'm redoing some chairs and a table that were free and am trying to decide what color to paint them.  I wish I could sand them down and re-stain them, but alas, they're just a veneer, so painting is my only option.  I redid the cushions on 2 of them so far and am debating about whether to paint them brown or be a little daring and go with green.  I played with the pictures using GIMP and wanted some more opinions.  FYI there are 4 chairs total (these 2 and 2 others that don't match, but the original veneer is similar) and a table (it also has a similar veneer).  I think I'll paint the table the brown no matter what I paint the chairs.  Ok, here are the pics.

If anyone has any other color options, I'm open to ideas.  Thanks everyone!

2  Red Polka Dot Wedding Invitation in Weddings and Bridal Showers by meg461 on: April 08, 2008 02:48:14 PM
I'm designing the wedding invitations for my brother-in-law and his fiancee and wanted to post the rough draft.  They're doing a red and white polka dot themed wedding.  I should have been a graphic design major cause I love doing this stuff.

Here's what I've done so far on our mantle and tree.  Still hoping to add more to both when I get the time and motivation.

4  Re: Who did their own flowers? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by meg461 on: October 27, 2007 02:33:57 PM
I did my own flowers.  I ordered 100 some calla lilies from Sam's Club website and had them delivered a few days before the wedding (they need time to perk up after being shipped).  The day of the wedding we simply gathered a few up per bouquet and wrapped them in some fabric.  We secured the fabric with some small pins.  It really ended up being pretty easy and I love how they turned out!

For the front of the church, we just bought some cheap vases and put some black rocks in the bottom.

It is a little stressful and we did end up just buying the bouts (because I completely forgot about them--only had a 2 month engagement), but overall I didn't think it was as difficult as I was expecting.  I had people that helped me though and that was key.  My advice--make sure you know exactly what you want to do, choose a fairly simple design, and make sure someone else is in charge of it so that you don't have to be making bouquets up until the last minute.

5  Huge Headboard in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by meg461 on: September 25, 2007 07:37:17 AM
As my hubby and I cannot paint the walls in the house we're renting, we needed a pretty dramatic headboard for our room.  Here's what we came up with:

It's really simple, but that's what I like about it.  Let me know what you think!

6  Simple and Elegant Wedding in 8 Weeks! (img heavy) in Weddings and Bridal Showers by meg461 on: September 25, 2007 07:19:21 AM
Just got married on July 27, 2007 and wanted to post some pics of the crafts I did.  I planned the wedding in 8 weeks and had a very small budget, and I think it turned out really well.

For the flowers I ordered calla lilies from Sam's Club's website and they were delivered a few days for the wedding.

I had three different centerpieces for the reception--Green apples in a wide cylinder vase with water, green apples in a glass bowl, or calla lilies in a vase.  I also had either black squares or table runners on each table that we made out of some cheap black fabric we found. Along with that we took a bunch of mason jars (both large and small) and wrapped black and green ribbon around them.  I then printed off a 'G' I had made on powerpoint and we attached those to the jars as well.  We filled them part way with sand and put a few tea lights in each. We also filled little candy cups with blueberries and put them at each place setting.

We did pies instead of cake which went over really well.

I made the program and invitation myself.

I also got the idea of a reception newsletter from here and had those rolled up and tied with a ribbon and then placed at each place setting.

The bridesmaids dresses we got on sale at JCPenney (little tip--if it has bridesmaid dress in the title it adds about $100 usually) and the calla lilies ended up matching perfectly.  Everyone thought we had planned it!

My mom made my veil for me and my jewelry was made for me at a local bead shop.

For the reception we put wedding pictures from our families on a board along with some Bible verses about marriage and love.  I think it turned out really well.

And here's one of my favorite pictures of the day (immediately after the ceremony we went with the photographers to a garden and took pictures for about 20 minutes before going over to the reception.  That was my favorite time all day--a chance for us to be together mostly alone after just getting married)

Hope you all enjoy!

9  Guy's Pinstripe Pants + Random Cutting and Sewing in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by meg461 on: October 13, 2004 03:16:15 PM
Hey guys,
I just made this skirt today.

First I cut the legs off the skirt, right below the zipper.
I took the zipper out cause the pants were too big and then placed the button further over so it became a little mini wrap skirt.
Then I cut both the legs down the sides and then cut them into random triangles, trapezoids, and such.
I then just started pinning right sides together and then sewed it together.
I didn't like how the front looked, so I took some of the extra cloth and draped it in front, connecting it w/ buttons.
Later (not in picture) I zig zag stitched around the edges with pink thread.  It only took me a few hours (most of which was spent experimenting and the like)
What do you guys think???

10  Repent and be Shaved! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by meg461 on: September 19, 2004 03:09:09 PM
I got completely inspired by this site and decided to see what I could do with this shirt....I'm still not sure what I think about it.

It has a sheep on it holding up a sign that says "Repent and be Shaved" and underneath says "Harold couldn't spell to save his life (or anyone else for that matter)"

I don't think I'm getting the picture to work.  So you can go to this link to see it.
