2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Pretty Sassy Straw Purses on: July 29, 2008 10:47:07 PM
This is a really fun craft project for tweens and Moms. I bought these purses at a dollar store. They are very sturdy, with handles and lined in summer fabrics. They had some very "tacky" and cheap trim on them which I removed. I attached some appliques and used some thin ribbon to weave shells and wood beads around the top. I love the flip-flops!

This one is a simple summer theme.  Remember to really supervise tweens with the glue guns! They can also be used as decor. I put the beachy purse in my Tropical Florida bathroom and filled it with fancy disposable hand towels for guests!

I also made a video of this project   http://youtube.com/watch?v=3Pk4R5Y4zKc   and posted it on you tube

with my other crafty videos. (Crafster OK'd me to put my video links in my topics.)
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / The Wicked Witch is Dead! on: July 19, 2008 02:50:05 AM
I was asked to make a giant pair of witch legs for a prop in my daughters marching band half time show "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" I used chicken wire to shape the legs.  Theres a laundry basket in the heels and the feet are swim noodles tied together and trimmed to make the pointed toes. Batting here and there to get a smooth look and covered with vinyl, fabric and tons of duct tape for the stripes and overall strength. They had to be weather proof and tolerate being drug around for 3 months of shows. They became such an icon of the season that when the season ended -  they were snuck from house to house at night and dumped in peoples yards and on roofs  for 2 more months to tease and surprise all the band families. They were pretty shoddy by the end of their travels but we got a lot of laughs out of them.

4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Dress a Plushie Bunny on: June 10, 2008 12:21:33 AM

This is what my girl scouts do with any naked stuffed animals they have! They bring in fabric scraps and trims as well as I, and then we swap and trade and design our critters. The outfit pattern is based on the measurements of the plushie ( you'll see in the video) Glue guns for 10 and older and fabric glue for the young ones. Fabric Tac is some really quick dry glue I LOVE for the kids who can't be trusted with the gun yet.   Roll Eyes  any way I OK'd it with crafster to link to my youtube video to show you how to make it.  It's real easy and fun  for the kids to design a unique outfit. There's two parts since youtube has a 10 min limit per video

5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Silly Rattlesnake Bean (rice) Bag Toy on: June 09, 2008 11:58:45 PM

This rattlesnake is a favorite of the girl scouts I teach. I was sewing them and having the girls fill and decorate but I switched to gluing them because the stretchy little reptiles kept leaking rice after being loved and adored by the kids. Huh  The cutest part is the "rattle" in the tail! It's a plastic egg with a few beads in it! Any way I teach with videos and I got the OK from crafster to link to my videos on you tube. Kids, tweens and teens love to make these

6  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / candeelady on: April 28, 2008 01:47:41 AM
Love this site.  I've sewn all my life- clothes, costumes, home decor and more.......... I started a hobby craft biz after being a crafty girl scout leader for 6 years. I teach simple crafts and recently started marketing craft kits AND I have a blog that combines my diy craft videos with info for Moms of tweens. Advice and humor to help Moms raise girls who do not focus their whole life on shopping and primping. Girls with confidence and goals and a strong self image. (It's the girl scout leader in me - can't seem to shake it)  Hope to make friends and chat with other craft nuts like me Tongue
