21  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Craft The Vote! / Ideas for Getting People to Vote on: March 02, 2004 06:32:11 AM
utne magazine has some suggestions...

free beer/espresso/sweets at the polls

discounts with an "i voted" sticker at cafes/bakeries/etc. on election day

fines for non-voters (works in australia-95% vote!!)

tax break for voters

free lottery tickets to a national lottery

make election day on a weekend

while most of these would be tough to make happen, we all know some shopowners to suggest discounts to, and anyone involved in their community could set in motion a plan to offer baked goods, etc. at the polls.  or marble magnets

i know someone out there has some paper crane instructions that make sense.  it seems that everything i've found, googled or otherwise, is either in japlish or is missing a crucial step or two...
would someone be willing to scan or point me toward some good instructions?
thanks!  i'd appreciate it Kiss

25  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / anyone made a paper lantern? on: January 30, 2004 12:10:54 PM
i posted this somewhere, but can't remember where Huh ahhh, sleep deprivation...

so, i'd love to hear how to go about making the spirally wire frame and affixing paper to it-whenever i try to picture doing it, i see myself glued to a big wiry, papery, crumpled mess...
26  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / tried glass bottle cutters, anyone? on: January 30, 2004 10:32:53 AM
hey y'all, just wondering if anyone's got experience using the bottle cutters i've seen at michael's-i thought it'd be fun to recycle my wine bottles by turning them into glasses and etching them for gifts...

modge podged the paper, superglued the marbles, and duco cemented the beaded ribbon.  so easy and sparkly Smiley
28  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / desperately seeking...embroidery mirrors? on: January 28, 2004 06:15:15 PM
anyone know where to buy those itty-bitty round mirrors most often seen on hindu wares (usually elaborately embroidered garments)?
i have about 8 million ideas for their use.
thanks!
29  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / valentine votives on: January 27, 2004 06:21:00 AM
just whipped up a bunch of these.
i printed words and hearts onto vellum, then
rubber cemented marbles to them, then superglued them to the glass.
i want to pour some yummy scented wax in there...i've got a post floating around here somewhere about whether that would shatter them...
anyway, very simple, here they be:

30  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / new flare for old pants on: January 18, 2004 07:05:22 AM
i'm a tall gal, so thrifting for pants that fit is often challenging.  to avoid the flood look, i jazzed up some pants that didn't quite fit lengthwise.

i handsewed a strip of a tapestry skirt onto these yoga pants:

and i made these khakis into capris with some trim from another skirt, which is now just a shorter skirt.

obviously i don't iron Tongue  the steamy nc summers usually do that for me!
