Alright, so this is what took up my time this last weekend.  That Knot Doll that I told you all about.  And wow, is she ever doing her job!!!

And this is her own post.

NerdyCrochetGirl----great job...see nothing to be scared of.  Now you'll be addicted like everyone else.

Graverobbergirl----beautiful.  Now all your friends will be lining up...lol
532  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / The Knot Doll aka Clover on: June 10, 2008 04:53:13 PM
Alright, so this weekend, I finally got tired of my 7.5 year old daughter tying everything she has in knots.  I mean, things were tied across her room.  I threatened to cut anything else she ties up.   Together, we decided the best option would to make something that she could tie whenever she wants.  Sooo, we cut up her favorite-no-longer-fits-but-still-wants-to-wear Tshirt. And one of my tank tops.  Then we attached a ton of yarn that she can tie as much as she wants.  She named her clover, for the fact that she is entirely green.  And the eyes are bizarre, because that is how she wanted them.  And she has already asked that the next one we make is red.  So, without further ado, the no pattern knot doll.

The start of the knots

My kiddo showing off Clover

Showing the different lengths of the hair, depending on how many knots are in it.

Hope you like it.

dessadoll - at 7 1/2 I would consider teaching her macrame. Maybe buy her one of the hemp jewelry kits to start. Unless the beads are a problem, infants and toddlers around.

My mom made the same suggestion about the macrame.  Will have to look in to it on payday.  And no, beads aren't a problem...no infants around...she's an only....but we are trying for another.

My boys are in the same phase. They like to hang things in complicated knots from the bunk bed. Think of George of the Jungle or Tarzan! That would mean that they refuse to get dressed, and want to go around in only their underpants and eat only bananas! I don't know how many years I've spent taking the knots out of the same robe sash. Usually when it's wet. It makes the task harder.
Aren't kids fun?

That's the same with mine, though its not as bad with the running around in underpants ROFL.

My daughter is 7 1/2 years old.  And she does know better.   She does know how to braid and french braid even.  But for some reason, just tying knots is more fun.  My mom said I went through the same thing at that age.  So I guess, I'll just have to hope this doll is enough to stop the other knots around the house.

actually making this poppet without killing myself-- priceless.

LOL, I'm feeling like that with Mother Earth.  I have her done, but I can't for the life of me make her cloak work out.  ARGGGGG!!!!!

And then today, I finally had it with my daughter tieing knots in everything she has.  Belts, toy leashes for her stuffies etc.   Soooo....we made a knot doll.  A rag doll out of her favorite-no-longer-fitting-but-still-wants-to-wear tshirt, and one of my tanktops...lol  Then attached a whole bunch of yarn for hair.  With the idea being that she knots the dolls hair and nothing else!!!!  I'll post pics hopefully tomorrow on the main stuffies page....as long as I can find my usb cord.

Sheesh...enough said...sorry for the long explanation ladies.

Wow, gone for a few days, and so much is new!    I just love Herman!   And Lilith! And ghile's new fur hair........and so much more!
Sometimes being a nurse means not enough time to work on poppets.  I feel like "Poppet Addict" already, and I'm only on number 2 for crying out loud!   I took her to work to get some input....and now people at work are wanting them too YIKES Shocked

Hmph.  And to think I would have time to make one that is all for me. Undecided

You can always hold your paper up to the screen and trace the pattern.  That's what I had to do with Ghile's poppet pattern, cus my printer was on the fritz.  And they turn out just fine.

That way you can get started on it right away.
