I never cut original patterns I always trace them I use bristol board or the brown craft paper. I always just used carbon paper and moved it as I went along just tape the pattern to what ever you are tracing it to.

I found an egg cup type thing for painting or dyeing eggs I use them for a painting pallet they are egg shaped and a little bigger than the ones you used. I got mine in the seasonal section I think at Wal-mart and just a Dollar store. Or what about a muffin tin or mini muffin tin or jellatin mold. those are my ideas.
