1  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / A Couple of Recipes on: January 05, 2009 04:13:18 PM
I've blogged a couple of recipes I've come up with that are vegetarian, and I thought I would post them here for people to see. I'm sure you could come up with vegan variations if you wanted to. Smiley

Stuffed Portobello Caps with Cheesy Peasy Rice:

Green Pasta Salad:

Both of them are pretty good. I got rave reviews on the pasta salad at the party I brought it to. Enjoy!

3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Fill-A-Box Round 10 - (US Only) Sign-ups CLOSED, Sendouts 10/31 on: October 01, 2008 07:45:18 AM
It's that time to purge your stash and get new stuff - it's FILL-A-BOX time!

Swap name: Fill-a-Box Supply Swap 10 (aka: US Flat Rate Box Swap)
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Daniethanas
Co-Organizer: Unknown as of yet!
Sign-up date range: 10/1/08 - 10/15/08, partners by 10/19/08
Date to send item by: 10/31/08

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? YES. This is a Fill a "US Postal Service Flat Rate Box" Swap so unfortunately it is limited to individuals in the U.S. Sorry.

Age Restrictions: Over 13, as stipulated in swapping rules

As a reminder each participant must meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month
- Has posted at least 15 times
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps
- Does not have any negative feedback
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 13 years old
**Additionally - each participant must have already completed the previous round of the fill-a-box swap (round 9).

Details of swap:
Fill-a-Box Supply Swap 10 (US Flat-Rate Box Swap!)

Its that time of the year again, clean out those overflowing baskets, boxes and craft closets.  What a better way to spend a cool fall day than purging your craft stash and making room for new supplies!

You'll fill a FLAT-RATE US Postal Service rectangular box with as much as you can comfortably jam in and send it to your partner (Don't forget the Delivery Confirmation). Information about USPS flat-rate shipping can be found here: http://www.usps.com/shipping/flatrate.htm?from=priority&page=flatrate

**The $9.80 price is for 2 different flat rate boxes; one is a squarish one and one is a flatter rectangular one. The one that most people use is the flatter rectangular one - I believe that the USPS website calls it a "Shirt Sized Box" or something to that effect. Because a lot of people will send 8.5 x 11 sized books and patterns from time to time, this is the preferred one and that way too everyone is on the same playing field.**

**NOTE: I know that in Round 9 there was an option for either sized box. Because of my own time restrictions, this round is ONLY the one size for $9.80**

**NOTE 2: You can use the squarish sized box if you and your partner agree to it, so long as it's the same priced box**

Gently Used supplies are fine, if not encouraged-- take this opportunity to do a little craft purging, the result is a clean(er) craft closet and some fresh ideas/supplies for crafting. However, please make sure that you are sending something that you also wouldn't mind receiving. Supplies - even those gently used - should be in good clean condition. Personally, when it comes to my own stash if I question the quality I go by this motto: "When in doubt, throw it out". If you wouldn't use it because you think it's in poor condition, chances are someone else will feel the same way.

Because of the special type of box (only $9.80 plus delivery confirmation) this is limited to US participants only. There IS the option to sign up to send 2 boxes; please make note of that in your questionnaire. Also, the threads for this swap tend to have heavy traffic, so the use of the PM is extremely important to communicate with your organizer(s). Please be sure to PM your organizer(s) and your partner each time you send and receive. Also - I can't guarantee that I'll be able to pair you up with someone you "claim" on the thread or any supplies that are you post on the thread. I'll do the best I can to keep up though!

Sign-ups will run from 10/1/08 to 10/15/08. Partners will be paired and send by midnight at 10/19/08 at the absolute latest.

If you want to participate, here is the information to send to Daniethanas (the organizer):

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Fill-a-Box Swap Round 10

Can you verify that you are over 13 years old?:

1) What types of crafts do you do?
2) What types of supplies do you anticipate including in the package?
3) Are there any unusual supplies you plan on including?
4) Are there any specific supplies you would like to receive?
5) Would you be interested in sending - and therefore receiving - a second box of supplies?
6) Please verify that you will be sure to send a PM each time you send or receive a package (inclusive of the DC# for sent packages):
7) Are you able to take photos of things you send/receive?

<--- These Quick Questions make sure people are paired with people whose extra craft supplies they are likely to use.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE. Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide (found here: http://www.craftster.org/swapsinfo.html#anchor4) to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fill-A-Box Round 10 (US Flat Rate Box Swap) on: September 17, 2008 01:17:18 PM
Alrighty... I noticed that the send-outs for the current round of Fill-A-Box are on 9/27, so I figured I'd better get this thread started since it's my turn to organize next.

Any interest in a round in October? This swap is usually a big hit. Smiley I'm thinking that sign-ups will be 10/1 through 10/15, send-outs by 10/31. This way there we get it on a "monthly" schedule.

Also, if anyone else wants in on the rotation of organizing... please feel free. This is usually a project to organize in and of itself! Smiley
5  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Cucumber & Apple Sandwich on: August 19, 2008 09:15:06 AM
DH and I are trying to lose weight, and I made the dumb mistake of going to the grocery store hungry last night. So what was my impluse hungry buy - a cucumber. No, I'm not joking. DH doesn't really care for them so they're a treat for me.

So then I thought... what can I do with this cucumber? Maybe a sandwich? Then this morning when I washed off the cucumber and apple... I had a vision. A vision of a delicious sandwich. And it was. Here's how you do it.

SO-EASY CUCUMBER AND APPLE SANDWICHES
Ingredients: (Makes 2 sandwiches, so invite a friend over or half the ingredients and put the remaining apples/cukes in the fridge for tomorrow)
- 4 slices of your favorite bread (I used oatnut because it's my new bread obsession)
- 1 cucumber, sliced into 1/4 inch slices (peeled if you want, I like 'em with the skins)
- 1 apple, sliced into 1/4 inch slices/wedges (again, peeled if you want, I like 'em with the skins) **Make sure to toss them in a bit of lemon juice or they'll go brown!**
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese, divided (or vegan soy-cheese equivalent - cheese or cheese-like product is optional)

Method:
- Distribute the sliced cucumbers on two slices of bread (you may have some left over, just eat 'em on the side... all depends on the size cuke you have)
- Distrubute apple slices on top of the sliced cucumber layer (again, you may have leftovers)
- Sprinkle 1 tbsp parmesan cheese on each sandwich (if you want!)
- Cover the sandwiches with the other slices of bread. Serve with your favorite sandwich side.

I would imagine that this would be tasty with a dash of plain black pepper and/or cinnamon as well. If you try this - let me know!
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fill a US Flat Rate Box - Round 9 - Interest? (US Only) on: August 15, 2008 11:11:43 AM
The current round isn't done yet, but people are already calling for another round. Smiley

Basic premise - get a US Flat Rate shipping box (standard shirt size), destash your craft supplies, and get a box of "new" stuff in return. Done in a round-robin style.

Here's the gallery for the current round: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=261270.0
And the original thread for the current round: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=257500.0

I don't mind organizing again... it's been... interesting. Sign-ups would probably be 10/1 - 10/14, "partners" by 10/16 or 10/17 if I organize. If someone wants to organize sooner just let me know. Smiley

Fill-a-Box Supply Swap 8 (US Flat-Rate Box Swap!)

Its that time of the year again, clean out those overflowing baskets, boxes and craft closets.  What a better way to spend a summer day than purging your craft stash and making room for new supplies!

You'll fill a FLAT-RATE US Postal Service rectangular box with as much as you can jam in and send it to your partner (Don't forget the Delivery Confirmation). Information about USPS flat-rate shipping can be found here: http://www.usps.com/shipping/flatrate.htm?from=priority&page=flatrate

Gently Used supplies are fine, if not encouraged-- take this opportunity to do a little craft purging, the result is a clean(er) craft closet and some fresh ideas/supplies for crafting. Because of the special type of box (only $9.80 plus delivery confirmation) this is limited to US participants only. Sorry.

As Oops Creations has done in the past, if you are interested in sending a 2nd box that's fine too. Just be sure to note that on your questionnaire.

Sign-ups will run from 7/16 thru 7/31. I'll be working to get you your partners by midnight on 8/2 at the latest.

If you want to participate, information to send to Daniethanas (the organizer):

9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Dishwasher Fairy Doll on: June 14, 2008 07:13:06 AM
I sent this lil' one out in the OWS 34... just a little someone who will come and do the dishes when no one else will. She's even equipped with her own lil' sponge. Smiley

She's based off of this pattern: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33186. I added wings to the back and an apron, both improvised and no memory really of how I did them.
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Delightful Dishcloth on: June 07, 2008 02:36:52 PM
Sheesh! I was a busy little bee in May...

This is the 2nd dishcloth that I made for the Dishalicious Dishcloth swap. This was an interesting one to do because as I was making it I was worried that it would end up being a baby's bonnet! But - it was nothing a little blocking couldn't fix. Smiley
