Class (or House Pride Item): Reducio Challenge
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Shrunken Owl
Brief Description:
While helping Professor McGonagall with the acceptance letters for this fall, I heard a crash from the other room followed by a loud squeaking hoot! I ran to investigate and my silly owl Archemedes had knocked over a Shrinking Solution and managed to drench himself! Well, I couldn't rightly delay Quinn's letter just because of that, so I figured this would be a good time to practice my Reducio Charm on the parchment. Being a good sport, Archemedes headed right out with the letter, and no worries, but the time he came back he was rightly sized again.
Project Picture:

My little troublemaker! Smiley I used white suede for his body, and wool thread called Snow Melt from Dragonflylotus Designs for his outline. It's a really pretty mottled grey color.

My shrunken letter. I use vanilla extract to get the color right. There's a sewing needle for size reference.

I'm home from vacation, and had a package from Quindustrious P. waiting for me.  Let's just say we think alike hehe.

We both made hoops with owls!! I looove this hoop. It might be hard to tell in the photo, but the owl is appliqued on and stands out a bit.

Thank you soooo much for being my partner!!

Class: Astronomy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Flame of Tar Valon
Project Page Link: click here
Brief Description: I stitched up a symbol of the Flame of Tar Valon and in the process brought in a sun high in the sky and a setting sun. The beams coming from the sun high in the sky are number 6 to match the Tower when it was broken. Since the Blue's had left, the color of the sun is off to remind us that we need all the colors to be whole. The setting sun has 7 beams, and is in the proper tone. The border is also made up of many tiny sun bursts.

(No, you won't really get the references for this or Loial unless you've read Wheel of Time...but I'm just pleased with how they turned out!!)

24  Re: Abundance of Embroidery thread craftalong-2011 Ongoing in Craftalongs by SiakelA on: June 17, 2012 06:21:36 PM
Hi all! I've had this bookmarked forever and finally have something to post Smiley

It's the symbol of the Aes Sedai from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. I used up my 5 yards of Balance Wool for your needle by Dragonflylotus Designs. Then I was all out so I threw in some golden DCI random thread I had too. Smiley I love using hand-dyed thread that has a fun name and character. The only thing is that I HAVE to use thread wax on it or it knots up every time I try to pull the needle through!

The fabric is also from my stash Smiley

25  Re: The Ongoing Poppet and Punkin-Along in Craftalongs by SiakelA on: June 17, 2012 06:12:08 PM
Here is my second ever poppet! I love it Smiley

I'm in particular proud of the jacket and the hair. The hair was made with faux fur, and the jacket was modified from one of the patterns on the first page. My mom helped out a LOT with everything. Cheesy I'd never finish without her!

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
Class Partner: JuliG47 (my mom helped a LOT! and since this is summer semester I told her I would ask for her to get credit too.)
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Ogier
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=410204
Brief Description: I followed Loial across many lands in order to acquire the details I needed to make this poppet. He was very difficult to track down! I feel as though he knew someone was following him. (Clearly I should have worked on the Knightbus challenge to practice being inconspicuous!) By following him I have discovered that Ogier are very friendly to humans, but prefer to avoid one another. They enjoy reading books, but all those he had were clearly written for humans. They were far too small for him to read comfortably! He was nearly 10 feet tall, and built like a beater for the Falmouth Falcons. He did not appear to have any magical abilities granted to him aside from his size and strength.

27  Loial son of Arent son of Halan Poppet in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SiakelA on: June 17, 2012 05:52:46 PM
This is my second poppet, made with a lot of help from my mom. Smiley It is a depiction of Loial from the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

He has his long eyebrows and twitchy ear tuffs. The jacket has a working pocket that holds the green book perfectly (which opens and works!). He has buttons all over his jacket (cuffs, jacket tails, the front). The pants have a latch and open and close. The only things I would change would be the fabric of the shirt (it looks very hawaiian...) and give him eyelids. I did attempt that, but it didn't work out... Smiley Still, my last poppet had eyes painted on, so that was an improvement! I think the nose in particular helped to make him recognizable.

The hair was made from faux fur. I'm pleased about that because I haven't seen that method done before. Smiley

Really though it's very clever!! And your technique is great. I just have a thing about zombies....the only thing they are good for is squishing. In the head. With a shotgun shell!

Class: Charms
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Blonde Pale Ale
Brief Description: My first batch of beer! Of course, it won't technically be finished for a couple weeks. Still, I'm very excited!
Project Picture:

This was a failed attempt at a charms and potions independant study project. I was working on crafting a potion to improve memory from the forgetfulness potion base, by adding Mermaid blessed water instead of Lethe River Water and stirring counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Unfortunately I forgot to take into account the reaction of the heat of the water to the mistletoe berries. I've ended up with a potent, but temporary forgetfulness potion that will cause the drinker to lose their short term memory and act as though under the effects of a confundus charm for a few hours. I've kept all of my notes, and I do believe this still qualifies for the charms assignment, and I already have plans for my make up project for potions.

I got my computer up!! I squished one of my moniters in transit though, and now it has black spots Sad Oh well, se la vi!

Here is my package, with no further ado!

I can't even tell you how much I love this! I feel like every time I look at it I see new details. Cheesy I have it in my kitchen, so everyone who comes by will see it, and if hubby makes me condense my geekiness (which happens from time to time hehe) I will place it with my hoopla wall, so it can still be admired, as is proper.

I also received a shawl! The yarn is a baby blue with silver thread, and is verrrry soft. I love the pattern AlphaBrett used for it.

Here are a bunch of littles Cheesy The upper left is eyeshadow, because she noticed my obsession on pinterest. I wanted to show off the color, but I asked her to base it on what she felt any of my favorite characters would wear, and this is based on Moiraine. Love it!

Even without the note I could still tell the wire teardrop was the Flame of Tar Valon. Cheesy

I can't even express how cool the attention to detail is here. The snake looks just amazing. I do wish I had a note to go with this one though... Wink I'd love to know more details on your thoughts behind this one!

Last but not least, a fox pendant for Mat! She must have seen the silver on my wishlist. I'm sure this will come in quite handy in protecting me. Smiley
