Class: Charms
Ravenclaw Extra Credit: Alchemy (Can I do extra credit by combining classes?)
House: Ravenclaw
Project: Retaining Wall

I spent the day helping my friend build a retaining wall in his backyard. He bought this house last summer, and I told him I would help with setting up the garden. I did not know what I was getting myself into!!  Roll Eyes

It took the two of us six hours and two trips to the hardware store, but we got it built!! We dug out the ground, leveled it, laid the bricks, filled in the back with soil, then planted marigolds and dusty miller. I ended up spacing the plants a little too close together, but hopefully they will look nice when they grow in. It looks realllly good from the road, since it's a hill and you can't see behind the flowers.

Last weekend we put some similar bricks around two trees that are on flat ground. We didn't level the ground first though, and you can tell. We also filled in the area between the bricks and the trees with white rocks, which looks great against the grey retaining stones. I also planted flowers in two pots by his front door. All said and done, I think his house looks much nicer now! Sorry no pictures from last weekend. Smiley

Edit: lol, all that dirt on the ground!! We were so tired and dirty at the end of the today. I just want to sleep now!

Clear your mind and open your eyes to take in this wonderful expanse before.... Malfoy! This is not the time to be going to sleep! You need to stay awake for this class, just like any of your others. 10 points from Slytherin!

PROFESSOR CHALLENGE

Today is the Summer Solstice. This marks the longest day of the year (for the Northern Hemisphere). But it also marks that the nights will begin to get longer and the days shorter as the Earth tilts back away from the Sun. For this challenge reflect on the time since the Winter Solstice. Create something that is inspired by something you've seen in the past past six months that reminded you of the beauty in the world around you. You have until the end of the semester to complete this challenge.

Completed Projects

Gryffindor - jennieingram
Ravenclaw - pottermouth, teag

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DADA
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Pigeon Protest
Brief Description: My class discovered a travesty in the hallway! The Pigeon from Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! was pinned by his wing to the wall! Together, we all cast the Patronus charm to get rid of the locked cabinet and get him down!*
Project Picture:

We also got in trouble....but not too much trouble. Wink

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Stars on a string
Brief Description: After reading Ursa's sad story, I knew I had to bring her down from the sky. I charmed the stars into these buttons, and am wearing them on my wrist until I am able to turn her back into her beautiful self.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Bento for Spring!
Brief Description: I live in the Midwest, and we have VERY crazy weather here. In January, we went from below freezing one day to over 70 degrees the next day. It has been similarly up and down this month. So I created a bento with a cooling salad and warm pasta, so that no matter what the weather is I will be able to enjoy my lunch. Cheesy

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Potions

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Holiday recipe challenge
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: best cookies ever!
I meant to post this right after christmas, but I am sans computer right now. I made these for everyone for christmas....but no pics. So I made them again....but my husband ate them before I could get a picture! Did I mention its the best recipe EVER? Luckily I squirreled away some of the cookie dough for myself so I was able to take a (not very fancy) photo of these.

Sorry for any typos, its hard to proofread from my phone. Smiley

Class/Challenge: Potions
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Shrinking Solution
I tried out something I saw on pinterest - use a keyring as an embroidery hoop. Fun, but I had 2 problems. First, it was hard to keep the fabric from moving around, so my circles are kind of wonky. Second, I have no idea how to finish the back without it being waaay to thick! Any ideas let me know. Smiley

Class/Challenge: Ravenclaw Offense and Arthimancy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: So many babies!!
I have 3 new babies in the family, June, A.J. and Audrey. So I made them personalized baby blankies for Christmas. I forgot to take a picture of Audrey's blanket before I gave it to her. Sad I've asked my uncle to send me a photo and I will update with that picture as soon as I get it. (It's in Tiffany blue with black thread because she's named for Audrey Hepburn! You can imagine the cuteness!)

I will meet the first years at the doors and lead them to the welcoming feast.

"Hello, and welcome to your first year at Hogwarts. I would like for you to get to know each other well, as you will be sharing your classes and rooms for the next 7 years. In a few moments you will come into the Great Hall and be sorted. Those in your house will be as your family for your time here, but remember that all of the students here are your friends. Please come to me or any of the staff with any questions you have, and above all else, have a good time!"

Class (or House Pride Item): Divination
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Lightning Hockey Stick
Brief Description: Did this a little bit ago, and forgot to post!
Ceraunomancy is divination by observing lightning. Ancient Roman augurs believed that lightning bolts from the east were favorable omens, while lightning bolts from the west were bad omens. Lightning bolts from the north were the worst omens. Lightning bolts from the northwest were a sign that very bad news would arrive soon.
Project Picture:

Class (or House Pride Item): Keeper Challenge
House: (if desired) Ravenclaw
Project Name: Cookies!!
Brief Description: I didn't end up decorating the plate, since I couldn't find a method I liked. So, I simply made the cookies, and gave them to the fire department. (I couldn't get ahold of the police station to see if they would accept baked goods.) I think they were appreciated. Smiley
Project Picture:

Class (or House Pride Item): Chaser Challenge
House: (if desired) Ravenclaw
Project Name: Be someone who makes you happy hoop
Brief Description: This is the only thing I'm posting that I'm not happy with. I stitched while watching TV, and I guess I should have been paying more attention. The third line is waaay too crooked for my tastes. I elongated 2 of the letters so it was a little less noticeable, but blegh. I may even end up redoing it some day. The colors at least I'm happy with. (The other hoops in the photo have all been received in swaps Cheesy )
Project Picture:

Class (or House Pride Item): Detention
House: (if desired) Ravenclaw
Project Name: Date nights!
Brief Description: I pinned some lists months ago of potential date nights for when all you do is sit around with your hubby and watch TV. I used detention to spur me into finishing this off and putting it together. I chose my top 100 dates, and put an easy one on one side and a more expensive/time consuming one on the other. That way every stick should have an option that is appealing no matter what. Plus domo cup. Wink
Project Picture:

Class (or House Pride Item): Beater challenge
House: (if desired) Ravenclaw
Project Name: Poly clay cane
Brief Description: my first ever polymer clay cane!! Chilling it absolutely helped to make it easier to slice.
Project Picture:

Class (or House Pride Item): Seeker challenge
House: (if desired) Ravenclaw
Project Name: Snitch ornament
Brief Description: I made a snitch ornament using my cane! I need to add a wire hook and bake it, but otherwise it's done. It doesn't look half bad either!
Project Picture:

Thanks for going through my uber long post! And sorry for blurry pictures, I do my best with limited tools.  Roll Eyes

Class (or House Pride Item): Reducio Challenge
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Shrunken Owl
Brief Description:
While helping Professor McGonagall with the acceptance letters for this fall, I heard a crash from the other room followed by a loud squeaking hoot! I ran to investigate and my silly owl Archemedes had knocked over a Shrinking Solution and managed to drench himself! Well, I couldn't rightly delay Quinn's letter just because of that, so I figured this would be a good time to practice my Reducio Charm on the parchment. Being a good sport, Archemedes headed right out with the letter, and no worries, but the time he came back he was rightly sized again.
Project Picture:

My little troublemaker! Smiley I used white suede for his body, and wool thread called Snow Melt from Dragonflylotus Designs for his outline. It's a really pretty mottled grey color.

My shrunken letter. I use vanilla extract to get the color right. There's a sewing needle for size reference.
