11  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Crafts and Craft shows - How to make money on: August 11, 2008 03:54:39 PM
I dont usually look into this forum, but when i found this book on the Google Book Search I just couldnt keep it to myself!

Its a book thats been digitised as part of google's moving libraries online, and although (since it was only published last year the copyrights nowhere near expiring) you can only see a preview of the content it still looks pretty interesting. It gives advise about identifying your customers, pricing and choosing the right craft shows.

Here's the link...

I know its a long one but it'll take you right to it, just click the arrows to flick through.
12  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / my first dremel! on: May 06, 2008 03:47:13 PM
Well my birthdays rolled around again (as birthdays often do) and when it came to looking at my list of present suggestions my family were greatly flummoxed by the 'Dremel'. ("I dont understand, you want a power tool for your birthday??  Huh )

I looked on t'internet for examples of the 'dremel multipro' that came so highly reccomended on the boards here, but the closest i can see is the 300 series.

http://www.dremel-direct.com/acatalog/300_Series___55_Accessories_and_Case.html

Any advice on what model I should be going for? I'll be using it mainly for cutting and sanding plastic and metal and possibly wood too.

Any advice for a new dremeller would be greatly appreciated!!
13  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / cassette tape notebook on: April 06, 2008 05:13:08 AM
My brain is like a sieve. Seriously.

I can remember most of the words to "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts", but when someone tells me to pick up some milk for them it gets filtered out of my brain like the boring mundane crap it is.

So I made myself a little notebook out of an old cassette tape case (I've been dying to make on of those cassette tape purses so I been buyin up tapes). I snapped off the sticky out bits with pliers, but now they look messy. I'll probabley paint the inside when I get a minute.

The construction of the tape case won't let the paper open up like actual pages so it had to be a list format.

First thing on my list is Tidy my room! Damn!

14  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / reconned contact box on: April 06, 2008 04:52:20 AM
Its my new years resolution to be more organised this year, so I immediately went out and bought one of those boxes to keep all your contact information in. Unfortunatley they only come in boring old black and blue so I knew something had to be done.

Soo I covered the top with wrapping paper my sister got from her Lush gift set. I was gonna do the whole thing but I ran out of paper.  Cry

The inside looks quite plain so as soon as I can get a hold of more of that paper I might do more to it. Until then it will remind me to fill this box with happy people's addresses!
15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Coffee recipe book on: March 15, 2008 03:29:44 PM
Weell, my friend is due to start on her new diet, so I thought her birthday pressie could be something to encourage her. So I made her a recipe book! Cheesy

Ta Daa! front cover, sporting a stylish purple gingham that I've been hoarding for the perfect cause!

First page, she's a coffee addict so I soaked the pages in coffee, now they look interesting and they smell nice! Although it was a pain in the arse to soak 40 odd pages with only two small sinks... Angry

mmm... bannoffe chocolate crepes *droool* Tongue

I stuck in some recipes I found to get her started.

I couldnt resist putting my mark on it... Roll Eyes

The pages are a bit messily cut, but intill I get a proper guillotene there's nothing I could do about that. Anyway, her birthdays next week so I hope it dries in time!!

16  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / working with leather on: March 05, 2008 10:15:18 AM
Well, I made a notebook a while ago for a freind and I was using this black imitation leather for the cover. It turned out quite well except it didn't really like bending around the corners of the cardboard and the glue couldn't quite hold it.

In the end I had to staple them down to make sure they wouldn't spring up. I painted them black so that you couldn't really see them and the recipient didn't mind, but it bugged me soo much cos I knew they were there. Cry

Does anyone have any tips for making the leather more workable? Maybe scoring or distressing where the folds will be??
17  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / just a quick little notebook on: March 02, 2008 02:34:24 AM
Well its my gran's b'day this week, I always ask if there's anything she had in mind but she always says the same thing: 'I'm sure I'll love whatever it is you get me.' Hmmph. She's no help. Huh

So I made her this notebook! She has a Yorkie so when I found this picture of one in last year's calender I knew I had to use it for her!

quick shot of the end paper ( I couldnn't find a pretty paper that I liked so I just doodlefied one)

By the way, does anyone know how I change the photo so that it comes up portrait instead of landscape? I can't find it one the FAQs.
18  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Book under construction! I need help! on: March 01, 2008 11:58:27 AM
Hi all,
Well for my freinds b'day I'm making her a recipe book. She's just starting a new diet so I thought a blank book she could put her favourite recipes in would be good.

This isn't how it will look, I just cobbled together the peices so you guys could see.

I like how it looks so far but I wanted to have the drawing of her at the bottom saying something witty. Unfortunately witty comebacks aren't my strongpoint! Huh Any suggestions? Something along the lines of 'no way am eating that.' or 'I know I can do better than that...'.

You get the idea. Any suggestions welcome!

Never mind!! I just had an idea of what to do so I don't have to be witty! I'll just slap some more art on there! Wink
19  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / satin photo holder on: March 01, 2008 11:45:06 AM
Technically I didn't craft this, I just remade it.

I had one of those clippy photo holders that looked like it could use a makeover, so I just wrapped it in satin and lace and put a little photo of me and my mum on the front.
I hope she likes it!
20  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / snazzy new bookmark! on: February 27, 2008 02:55:30 PM
my pretty bookmark!

I'll use anything for a bookmark, flyers, reciepts, international treaties etc. so I thought if i made myself a nice one it'd encourage me to actually use it.
