11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: getting fruity in the bedroom !! on: July 07, 2012 08:17:27 AM
This is awesome!  It looks like a watermelon.  Did you coat it with anything after the paint?  I have a couple of shelves that I painted, but haven't coated them to protect them because I'm not really sure what to use.

My version:

without flash

Had an extra embroidery hoop laying around and r2d2 is my husband's favorite character from Star Wars.  I stuffed him a little bit to make him round.
14  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Boston T quilt on: June 04, 2012 08:07:03 AM
This is my quilt of the map of the Boston T (subway).  The inspiration came from Elizabeth Hartman's Tokyo subway map, but I made mine smaller (1 inch squares) and wanted it of Boston.  So I mapped out the squares in excel to match with the Boston T, as much as can be and went for it.

I quilted it in white thread and horizontal lines

The square with the red heart is Andrew Station and where my husband and I used to live.

Close up of another corner.

I asked my mother-in-law and my quilty friend for scraps to use for the squares (as well as my own scraps).  There are only a couple of squares where the same fabric is used.

I divided the quilt into 9 large squares, sewed the smaller squares into the 9 large squares, then sewed them together.  Each square is 1 inch but because I have little patience with perfectly lining up squares, they are wonky.  But I like it.
15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Travel wallet for two on: June 04, 2012 07:27:07 AM
That looks great! I love the fabric you used.  I made a travel wallet for when my husband and I went to Korea and it was super helpful, so hopefully yours will be too!

17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Wisconsin String art on: May 23, 2012 04:03:00 PM
I'm not sure where to put this.  I had an extra piece of wood lying around and wanted to try string art.  I have seen other people do this with states and place the heart where their home town is.

I printed out an outline of Wisconsin (our new home), taped it to the wood and nailed small nails all around the outline as close as possible.  I used all the colors in my embroidery stash (except for black, white, and brown), and evenly split them among the outer nails, 10 nails per color.

After I finished, I took a sharpie and drew the quote.  What do you think?
18  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Re: My Kinda first Polmer Clay Works on: March 07, 2012 06:25:48 AM
I LOVE Spirited away and that candle holder is AMAZING!  I can't believe that you re a beginner at polymer clay.  And I didn't realize English wasn't your first language until the end when you commented about it.  So good job all around!
19  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Unicorn Horn Alice Bows on: January 13, 2012 07:23:48 AM
Very cute idea!  Also, I love the wig you are wearing in the last picture.

These are beautiful.  the rainbow one reminds me more of something I would wear when I was young, but the blue and maroon are gorgeous!
