An easy chair makeover on a $3.00 Savers chair.  My husband went to the University of Iowa, so this is his new desk chair.

Just a light sanding, few coats of paint and a handmade stencil.

When he pushes it into the desk, it just looks like a cute yellow chair, so no assault on our home aesthetic

I made these two wall hangings for a friend's nursery.  He asked for something involving space and then I made the kid-friendly shark as a nod to his love of Jaws.

These pics came out SUPER fuzzy, but I can't get them to work any other way  I drew and painted the images onto a heavy watercolor paper and then glued them onto painted canvas.  I wanted them to look very cartoony and have a 3D effect.

This year I was Disney's Ariel, mid shark attack.

I purchased the wig and the shark costume off amazon, but I had to create the purple shell bra. 

I bought a plastic shell bra from a halloween store and cut free the shells then sewed them onto a nude colored strapless bra.  Then I painted the whole thing with purple acrylic paint.  It took a few coats, probably 4 total.

My best friend recently requested that I make her 3 5"x5" pig pictures for her nursery.

Here is what I came up with!  Acrylic paint and ink on watercolor paper:









I ultimately decided they were cuter with NO background and my friend agreed.  If I had added something, it would have been a few blades of grass or some very small clouds.

I just moved across the country from Minneapolis, MN to Tucson, AZ and I had to sell/give away all my craft and art supplies (and completed projects!).  I think I will like it here, but it has been SOOO depressing so far.  I am really struggling to adjust.

Anyway, my boyfriend brought me home some construction paper and I dug out some wire and floral tape and made these daffodils.  They aren't the most spectacular thing I have ever turned out, but was MAJORLY therapeutic to throw myself into something for a few hours.

It is nice to see an item that I created in my home.  These flowers remind me that it is only a matter of time before I will have a home that is personalized with my own style and creature comforts.

TUTORIAL:

Supplies Needed:

Paper (even construction paper works, but the fancier the paper the nicer they look)
Floral Wire (Michael's and the Paper Source both carry this)
Floral Tape

The picture below was suposed to be printable to scale, but it isn't posting properly.  If you can enlarge it to 8 1/2" by 11" you can use the petal cut outs as templates. 

My boyfriend meticulously created this for me.  He is such a nerd, I heart him.



If this is still too confusing-I saw on the paper source website that they sell daffodil kits.  I have used their other paper flower kits and they always come out great.

So, taking this insanely fuzzy picture made me realize that:

1) I need to learn how to hook up my scanner
2) I have massive amounts of respect for photography, as I cannot even      photograph a still object.



Anyway, I have been making these little 8X10 gore/glamour paintings lately.  They are mostly acrylic w/ some charcoal and marker.

I like them because they look cool and take me about an hour, just the perfect amount of time for a craft/art project.  

And they make great gifts.

I got a set of 4 old wooden chairs for $8.00 at a garage sale.

Here is a picture of two-there are two more just like these.

I used vinyl to reupholster them-at first I thought that would be too cheesy...but I was very please with the end result. 

I really like the idea of having the alternating colors to.  They make for dining room chairs that are interesting, but not too wild.

Long live my staple gun!

I revamped this chair about 5 years ago.  It has kind of a torrid history.


The fabric is actually part of a quilt I had started with my ex-boyfriend.  We made the material by ironing hundreds of transfers that we made from scans off the computer.  My ex had to hand iron them all onto fabric.  It was super tedious.  On top of that, we were new to quilting and were trying to make this crazy funky design, and kept screwing it up.

Finally, we were fighting so bad, I yelled “F*ck it!  We are NOT breaking up over a quilt.”  So, I shoved it into a closet and didn’t give it another thought.

After our eventual, non-quilt related break up, I felt like it would be a shame to waste the material, but I didn’t want to have a bedspread associated with my ex.  I had found this chair in the garbage while out for a run one day (I am a SHAMLESS dumpster diver).  I painted the frame, padded the cushioning and re-upholstered it.

It actually felt really good to cut through the material and turn it into something new and different!

These aren't terribly original, but I these were in my pictures archives, so I thought I would post them.  Both of these t-shirt mods were from Large or XL shirts.  The one shoulder top literally only takes 5 minutes to cut and sew.

I painted this for my sis as a gift.  Sage advice from her older sister.  I think I need a serious tutorial on photographing art. (the pic is super fuzzy!)  I will have to dig through the archives!

It's mostly acrylic on paper, with some marker, charcoal and gore makeup thrown in for good measure.
