2061  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: Pita Mits on: May 22, 2008 07:24:36 AM
Thank you all for your nice comments and feedback.
lol raeonix about the googly eyes.
I made them from fabric thats right off the loom (don't remember what that's called) therefore the color.  I thought that it looked most like pita dough.  Cut out irregular circles used two cutout circles of batting and..overlocked them together.  There is a hole for one for his hand but I know him, he won't put it on his hand.lol but he will use them.
Thank you for your comments.  Now I'm trying to find yellow and black ribbon to "gift wrap" it. I'm such a PITA Mother.  Sorry, couldn't resist.
2062  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Pita Mits on: May 22, 2008 01:41:53 AM
My son has a birthday coming up and he has been wanting a pita oven for years.  Well the family decided to get him one finally.  Of course, I still had to put my two cents in so I made him a couple of pita mits so he doesn't burn his hands when he turns the platter.

Okay, it was supper simple to do but I still had to add something crafty to this.

Here you can see the "pita's" on the "turntable".  I think they look content.

(I know, I really need to be doing more serious crafting but couldn't resist)
2063  COOKING / Dessert / Strawberry Mirror Cake on: May 22, 2008 12:50:10 AM
I have been craving a strawberry "creamy" cake for ages so I've been looking and looking.  Then jennyrobot posted her masterpieces at
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=241128.0
(hope I did that right).  Well, she inspired me to just go ahead and try.  She also was kind enough to post the recipe.
Of course, I had to make alterations cause I am no way near her class so here is my take on the Strawberry Mirror cake
This is the cake in the springform. (Sorry but there is no way I'm gonna show in progress...there was so much mess you couldn't tell anyway...I have a habit of using every dish in the house to cook.lol)

Fresh out of the springform pan

And the first slice

It was alot of work and alot of dishes and a heck of alot of cleaning up but all in all I enjoyed making it.  Now I get to give it away...I've had my slice.lol
2064  COOKING / Dessert / Age old winner:Chocolate Chip Cookies on: May 22, 2008 12:38:15 AM
I got a phone call after 9pm from DS that he needs to bring "something" to a meeting the following morning and they don't have anything at home to make anything. (I won't mention that they live 5 minutes from a great bakery--but Mom is Mom)
Anyway, the only thing I had on hand were chocolate chips so I hurriedly got busy and got goin'.

I didn't even have a proper dish to put them in....
Here I'm mixed and ready for the oven.

Now into the oven til just the right moment...slightly browned edges(otherwise they come out hard)

Take them out....Now!

Immediately take off the cookie sheet and put on grill for cooling then storage.
At least I got my bowl back even though it just had crumbs in it.lol
Hope you enjoyed.
2065  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: woodburned bird house on: May 21, 2008 11:04:18 PM
Your birdhouse is beautiful.  I love the style.  I hadn't realized the possibilities of the woodburner.  lol, I would think twice about giving it away too.
2066  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Rainbow Fish Birthday Cake on: May 21, 2008 10:52:47 PM
Great cake.  I can see that it was very work intensive!!  Just the thought of icing that cake.  Great job.
2067  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Halloween Detritus: zombie hand crawling with pecan-caramel spiders on: May 21, 2008 10:30:33 PM
Absolutely gross.  Your hard work paid off.  A perfect Halloween prop!!! It had to be the hit of the whole area!!  Oh yuck!!  Just thinking of eating those spiders off that incredibly realistic arm. lol.  Great job and great foresight in seeing the potential.
2068  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Frida Kahlo Cake on: May 21, 2008 10:23:52 PM
Talented is right!!!  This is an incredible piece of art.  So good that it doesn't even look like a cake.  Beautiful.

I can't wait to see more of your talent.  You are very good and applied it well here.
2070  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Re: Miscellaneous Occasion/Holiday Crafting on: May 21, 2008 07:31:25 AM
Thank you HSG.  I realize that.  Actually there are questions about Ramadan I'd like to ask.  I was just looking' at it from my side of the plate so to speak.  I'm sure there are lots of mini occasions around.  I believe that almost everyday in America is some sort of "day of" for something.  I still think you have a great idea there for the holidays that don't fit into the already set categories.
