1  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: Happy Hooker Bikini?? on: July 12, 2009 10:54:00 AM
I'm in the process of making it- using acrylic yarn (worsted 4ply or something like that...I'm willy-nilly when it comes to yarns).
I followed the directions for "medium"- it seems to be a larger sizing that I expected. I'm a size 5/6 but the crotch turned out really wide so it looks like a diaper. Plus the cups are long, extending from underneath the boob to the collarbone.

I can't say for certain whether that's due to the pattern or my mediocre crocheting skills! Undecided

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Handmade wedding cake toppers on: April 13, 2009 11:11:02 AM
I made the following cake toppers for a friend's wedding..I wanted to give her several options!

1. Champagne corks, with painted bodies and fabric acccessories.

2. Wine corks: sculpey heads pierced onto a needle and then baked (the groom was painted after baking). The needle is then inserted to the cork to join.

3. Handsculpted likeness of the couple (they ended up being too big and heavy to put on a cake, though!) Sculpey formed around a bamboo skewer for stabilization. Painted after baking.
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: DNA autorad painting on: February 17, 2009 06:58:32 AM
Freaking COOL! There's a place online that does DNA portraits, but I love the canvas painting SOOO much better.

Thanks, plus the DNA portraits are bleeping expensive!
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / DNA autorad painting on: February 16, 2009 02:38:17 PM
My background: I'm a forensic scientist by day, so this artwork combines my creativitity and geekery.
If you're not familiar with the image, it's a technique used for DNA analysis. (Trivia- it's not what most labs use anymore. It's prettier than the computerized printouts, though)

It's acrylic paint on canvas, then I created the white bands with spray paint. The bands should have some variation (some fuzzy, some fat, some crisp, some faint).
Hold the spray can far away or close to create differences, but use tape (or a piece of paper) to keep the borders within vertical columns.
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Kewpie decal on: February 16, 2009 02:20:45 PM
This was one of the first cross-stitch patterns I ever made...it was a while ago, but I think I simply sketched the image right onto the Aida. Kinda sloppy of me, I suppose, but  it worked out better than many of my "well-planned" projects.
I cut around it and eventually found a home for it on a throw pillow.

6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Polymer teapot necklace on: February 16, 2009 02:12:22 PM

Necklace of random metallic beads with polymer teapot pendant.
I noticed afterward that the teapot was coming unhinged from the metal post...so I shoved it back in. High-quality goods, that's me.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Blossoms on: February 16, 2009 02:02:24 PM
Hey, that's just like my favourite hairpin that I lost a while ago...maybe I can try and make a new one! Cheesy
It looks great on you...

I agree, the eyelashes give her the flair she deserves!
I love them all and want to make baby faces at them. Kiss
