4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / Yoshis Island - Jurassic Park Style on: January 07, 2013 06:35:16 AM
I seen this really neat Yoshis Island picture but, it was in a Jurassic Park Dinosaur style.  We are huge video game fans here so, I made these for my dear hubby and kiddo.  They were my 1st & 2nd attempt at screen printing so, I am very happy with them.  Plus, dear hubby and kiddo really love them too, so Im happy.  I used a regular Yudu machine, plain ol' cotton t-shirts and black yudu blank ink.

Its that time of year again!  Time to sign up for the MINI 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS SWAP!!!!  I know to some it may seem a tad early, but I love knowing theres a long crafting time.  Especially since this swap is on the bigger side and the holidays can be hectic so, starting early just makes things easier and stress free.
Anyways, this is a swap for all you Craftsters out there who would like to do a Christmas/Holiday swap but, feel that the original 12 Days Of Christmas swap is too big for them.  Be sure to read everything through and that you understand it all. Details of swap:

The idea of this swap is to craft for your partner 12 items based on their interests, going along with the idea of the 12 Days Of Christmas song. The items that you make DO NOT have to be the items in the 12 days of Christmas song. The items sent/received can be BOTH everyday items and Christmas/Winter themed goodies. You will make 6 small items for days 1-6, for days 7-10 you will make medium items and days 11 & 12 will be large items. So that is 2 large, 4 medium and 6 smalls for a total of 12 days.

So, the break down will be:
DAYS BREAKDOWN:
Days 1-6 small
Days 7-10 medium
days 11-12 large

In the past round it was 75% crafted items & 25% store bought.
(extras are optional and are solely up to you.)

Below are Craftster guidelines for size requirements to help everyone. If you are having troubles with a certain size feel free to make an equivilant to the particular size. For instance, instance instead a medium you could look at the guidelines and substitute the 1 medium for perhaps 2 or 3 smalls. Just be sure to look at the guidelines and use your best judgement. Put yourself in your partners shoes and ask yourself if you think youd would be happy with the equivilant of the items they choose. And, if in doubt you can always send a pm to me and get a second opinion and if youre still in doubt ask another person in this swap. Anyways, here are the guidelines.

By Time
-Large = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Price
-Large = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

By Size
-Large = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse, DIY kits, blankets, bags, totes, cable knitted items, place mat sets, cable leg warmers, pretty knit socks, kitchen set of potholders/apron, set of embellished dish towels.
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf, wrist warmers, thread catcher, note card set, hats, magic yarn ball, embroidered pillow case, apron, stencil shirts.
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks, hand carved stamps, coasters, pot holder, key chain, dish clothes, decorated frames, journals, head bands, pincushion, heat packs.

Please note-these are just ideas of crafts to make.  I have potholders in the small category.  However if you make an  intricate one with lots of pieces or an embroidered one it could also count as a medium, or if you make a set of 4 that could be considered medium too.  I just put it in the small category because I was thinking of one simple potholder.  So, please use your best judgement with sizes.  You can always ask my opinion or another swappers opinion if you want.  I think the most important thing is to put yourself in the receivers shoes Would you be happy receiving a simple potholder as a small item?  Would you be happy if your large item was a cabled scarf?  Anyways..

And the link to last years gallery for more ideas.

Note:  In the past there has been slight confusion on how to label packages.  So just to make it clear the first package you want your partner to open,  you label as #1.  Then for the 2nd package you want them to open youd label #2 the second and so on.  So, #12 package would be the last package opened.  You can also label them by dates, as in put 'DEC 14th' on the first gift your partner will open then the last gift would be labeled DEC 25th.  Either way you want to label them is fine.  Just make sure that the small gifts are opened first and the last gifts opened are the large.

The RULES:
1. You must send ALL PM's to missmoppet and all PM's must have the subject line: Mini 12 Days of Christmas 2012.  This makes it so much easier on me.

2.You must post in the original thread at least once a week! This starts once partners are assigned. That is only about 10 posts. I know some people dont like to post/check in. So Im going to make it fun for everyone. As every Monday I will post a simple question. All you do is answer it and say one of the following: a) still crafting, b)done crafting or c)mailed items

3.PM's must be sent to missmoppet and your partner when you send and receive. If you are sending within the USA or Canada you must get a DC# / tracking # and send it to missmoppet and your partner. If you are sending outside of your country, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping, it will be requested if there are any problems! This is mandatory!

4.When you open each days package, you will then need to post in the gallery. I ask that you post pictures within a reasonable amount of time. I know that they Holiday season can be quite hectic, but please get them posted within 5 days of opening. Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! If you don't have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send.

5. The following items are NOT allowed in swap packages:
- Anything that is illegal in the U.S. or wherever you are sending your package to or from.
- Any items that have a legal age requirement to consume in the U.S. such as tobacco, alcohol, pornography etc.
- Mixed CDs containing copyrighted music or similar, including copied software, CDs, DVDs, etc
If you are uncertain please check Craftsters guidelines as well as your local post office

2. If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you and your partner live in the same country. I don't want anyone's package to go MIA with the lovely customs officials. Also, if you are sending baked goods, you may leave them out of your package and send them individually so they arrive in a timely manner and don't spoil or go stale.

3. I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. Because of the time of the year packages can get WET due to the post office/ups/etc leaving them on the doorstep AND some swappers have suggested that you also do this with anything you might send to a hot climate that might melt on your swap goodies.

4. Also, if you will be shipping to a partner that is in a HOT climate during the swap send outs, please do not include any thing that might melt on their swap goodies. Think about wrapping them in a plastic baggie or something similar.

5. Here is some info from the USPS on the Flat Rate Boxes: these can be use for Domestic and International but the rates differ for International shipments. And if you purchase your postage online at usps.com or by paypal, com you get a small discount on the postage price. The Flat Rate boxes themselves are FREE (you still have to pay for postage ) from your local post office and also FREE if you get them online from the website usps.com, they will deliver them to you free of charge too!! Canada has some shipping envelopes that can be used within the country or region and prices will vary, but if you are sending something heavy they are a good choice.

6. I highly recommend that each of you put together a WIST or a PINTEREST. These are  a huge help for your swap partner. They get to look through all the things you have put into it to get a feel for what you like.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your packages and other details about participating in a swap.

AND AS A REMINDER:
Please remember to keep in the holiday spirit.  Extras are optional-but quality is NOT optional.  I want everyone to recieve nice items that were crafted/bought with them in mind.  So, in other words Please read their questionnaire over and over and make sure you are sending them something they will like, and not just random things thrown in a box.  Its never fun to receive a thought-less package, especially when they worked hard to make you crafty wonderfull-ness from the heart.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / MINI 12 Days of Christmas 2012 on: July 28, 2012 05:36:13 PM
Yeah, its that time of year again!  We always start this swap early-since its a bigger swap it gives us lots of crafting time-thus creating a fun and stress free swap.  I plan to do it the same as last year.  So, I just copy and pasted that information below.  I plan to get things rolling next week-and wanted to give everyone a heads up.  If you'd like to make some suggestions on what you think would make nice small, medium and large gifts, go ahead and post your ideas here and when I get the sign up started I'll add them to the idea list.  Time wise Im thinking signups for 2wks (or until 24 people sign up) Then the send out date November 30th.  Thus haveing a lovely long  crafting time, and giving the packages enough time to arrive on the opening date.  Ideas and suggestions welcome!

You will make 6 small items for days 12 to 7, for days 6, 5 , 4 & 3 you will make medium items and days , 2, & 1 will be large items.

Anyways, heres the guidelines.

By Time

By Size
-Large = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Making an ironing board cover. on: April 25, 2012 01:01:21 PM
So, I really need a new fabric iron board cover.  The one I currently have is the one my Grandma used for years.  For sentimental reasons I've kept using it but, its getting really shabby.  Is there a specific type of fabric you have to use or anything when making these?
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / vintage bunny slippers oct. 28th 1957 on: April 16, 2012 11:58:46 AM
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Knitting-Pattern-Bunny-Slippers-Easter-sz-1-4-/180653710697

I seen this on ebay to make these bunny slippers.  but the seller isnt selling the magazine, only a reproduction of the original pattern.  In the description the seller wrote:

This pattern was originally printed October 28, 1957. It was NOT copyrighted and became part of the public domain upon its publication, October 28, 1957.

Seeing the pattern is part of the public domain, I'm hoping that someone knows where I can find the pattern for free.  Im not trying to be cheap or anything, but when patterns are part of public domain, i'm a little offended when people make reproductions of the patterns and sell them instead of sharing them for free.  After all they are part of the public domain and ive seen lots of older patterns that are public domain being offered fro free all over the internet.  Anyways, if someone knows where this public domain pattern can be found for free, or has a copy of the original magazine I would love to have the pattern.
