11  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Need some help making stencils on: February 05, 2009 09:16:43 AM
I'm wanting to make my boyfriend a set of etched glasses for V-Day. Unfortunately, my home computer has gone to the computer ER so I dont have access to my image editors. I was wondering if anyone out there would mind making a few stencils of the faces of the characters from Big Bang Theory or Two and Half Men. Or if anyone has seen anything online and could point me in a good direction that would be great too Smiley Worst comes to worst I'll have to put the project off until our Anniversary or his birthday, lol. Any help would be really appreciated!
12  COOKING / Dessert / Alcohol inspired dessert recipes needed on: January 27, 2009 05:09:46 AM
I'm going to a Super Bowl party this weekend and have been asked to make a dessert. I made Margarita Cupcakes last time and they were a HUGE hit. I dont want to make the same ones, but I'd like to make another drink inspired cupcake. Any ideas? I seem to be having a creativity blockage today, lol. THANKS! Smiley
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 30th Birthday Ideas Needed on: November 07, 2008 02:44:49 PM
My boyfriends birthday is this weekend and I'm trying to come up with a little something personal for a gift. We're spending the weekend at a hotel on the beach and his main gift was a vacuum I had to get him Sunday, lol. I know that sounds weird, but he wanted a vacuum so thats what he got, lol. I dont feel right just getting a vacuum, lol. I dont have a lot of cash to spend and I'm down to the wire, so I wanted to make him a little something. Maybe even something that incorporates him turning 30. We make fun of eachother a lot because I'm 24 and he'll be 30 - he calls me a baby, I call him old, you know how it goes, lol. So a funny gift would be awesome. My mind is just not working for me, haha. Any ideas? Thanks!
14  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Dog and Beth - Bounty Hunters! on: October 29, 2008 12:40:13 PM
I want to start out by saying, my bf is amazing! When I first started bringing up costume ideas he didnt want to dress up whatsoever. Then one night while we browsing the net he saw a Dog the Bounty Hunter costume... one day he'll learn not to put ideas in my head, I tend to run with them, lol. Now, I didnt sew anything other then the black part of his necklace that holds the badge. I did however get EVERYTHING except the wigs from Goodwill. Together, our costumes cost under $30. The wigs were the most expensive because I bought real wigs and not the costume type, less itchy and you dont spend all night pulling plastic hair off your clothes, lol. We had so much fun with this costume and even won the contest, I'm already lookin forward to next year! Enjoy the pics Smiley

Meet Dog and Beth...

15  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Suprise Bathroom Remodeling for my Boyfriend on: August 25, 2008 08:10:09 AM
I wanted to do something special for my boyfriend to show him that I love him. Well, Saturday he had to work so I decided to remodel his bathroom for him. He's so bored with his house, but due to work being slow he has a hard enough time paying bills not to mention have some play money for the house. When he moved into his house the bathroom was painted some weird sea-green type of color, definately not manly, lol. On top of that, the entire house has no texture whatsoever on the walls - so you can see every dipple, seam, and inperfection. A few weeks ago we were in the store and he picked out a color blue that he would like the bathroom to be. I stole the color swatch and ran with it, lol. So, when my wonderful boyfriend left for work at 7:30am, I started getting busy. I found a "sand-type" texture that you could add to a gallon of paint - I was originally going to spray the walls with an orange peel texture, but didnt have time to prime or anything so I settled with the additive - which looks really cool. The paint went on well, but due to the additive it splattered EVERYWHERE so after one coat I had to hurry up and clean his sink, bathtub, and toilet, lol. When that was done, I began placing down the new flooring, then gave the paint a 2nd coat. The 2nd coat I didnt use the additive so the paint went on nice and smooth and without the splatter, lol. While that dried, I finished the flooring, hung some new towels and an awesome new shower curtain. I did all of this for under $100. I also finished around 4:45 and had just enough time to take a shower before he came home. The suprise was a total success and he was speechless Smiley 1 room down, 6 more to go, lol Wink

And after hours of hard work - here's the manly-beautiful after!

16  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / In need of funny "bathroom" quotes on: August 14, 2008 10:04:49 AM
I'm suprising my boyfriend next Saturday while he's at work by redecorating and fixing up one of his bathrooms (the one in his room aka masterbath). The bathroom is pretty small and definately no frills. I'm painting the walls a blue that he picked out, recaulking his shower/tub, cleaning EVERYTHING, replacing his towels with brown ones, finding some shower curtain with blue/brown to match, and also using those linoleum tiles to redo his ugly floor, lol. Everything else in the bathroom will remain white. I was thinking of adding some kind of funny saying around the walls (like a border) so he has something to laugh at everytime he sits down, lol. Any ideas?? I'm also thinking of doing some sort of contact paper or stencil above his medicine cabinet just to accent things. I saw the birds someone else did and love the idea but think birds might make it seem a bit girly - maybe a fish or deer? IDK, lol

18  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Bathroom Help - Caulking on: August 13, 2008 08:43:10 AM
I am suprising my boyfriend next Saturday. He has to work all day so I am going to his house and remodeling/decorating his bathroom. The people who originally "fixed-up" his house before he bought it did a really crappy job. It was basically to the same extent of getting your car painted at Macco - it looks ok for about a year then goes to sht, lol. The shower/bathtub are the type that instead of having tile on the walls they have a plastic/fiberglass piece thats molded to fit around the wall and look like tile - like the pic below (not of his bathroom).

http://images.lowes.com/product/087206/087206308543.jpg

The problem I am having is that where the wall piece meets the tub piece needs to be recaulked, but it's not as simple as it sounds. The wall piece flexes so normal caulking just seems to flex around with it and eventually just crack. We started on the hall bathroom Monday, striped off the old stuff and used this really neat caulking strip - it looked awesome when we were done, but it wont bend around the curves of the shower - water got behind it even after 24hrs of sitting. We thought this stuff would be perfect because it had a thin plastic strip with caulking on the back. You folded it in half then stuck one side to the tub and the other to the wall - figured it would flex perfectly - which it did, just not around the corners, lol. Could I get away with doing this again, but instead adding some filler caulk to the corners? Or is there something better out there that will hold up? I hope I made sense, lol. Thanks!
19  COOKING / Dessert / Margarita Cupcakes on: August 06, 2008 05:48:59 AM
Margarita Cupcakes
9 oz (18 Tablespoons) Margarita mix (such as Bacardi)
3 oz (6 Tablespoons) tequila
3/4 oz (1.5 Tablespoons) Grand Marnier
White cake mix
3 egg whites
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 Tbsp lime zest
1 recipe Lime Buttercream Icing (recipe follows)

Mix together the margarita mix, tequila, and Grand Marnier in a large glass or spouted bowl. You will use 1 1/4 cup of this in the cupcake mix. Pour the remainder over ice and enjoy the mini-rita while you're baking.

In a stand mixer, add the cake mix, egg whites, vegetable oil, lime zest, and 1 1/4 cup of the margarita mixture. Mix on low for about 30 seconds and then increase to medium speed for two minutes (the batter will still be a bit lumpy).

Spoon the batter into prepared muffin pan and bake at 350 for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick registers done in the center cupcake. Remove the pan from the oven and cook 5 minutes. Remove the cupcakes and cool completely on a baking rack.

Once the cupcakes have cooled, make the icing and ice the cupcakes.

Lime Buttercream Icing
3 cups + 3 Tbsp confectioner's sugar
1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
1/8 tsp salt
1 Tbsp lime juice
1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional)
green food color (optional)

Add the butter, confectioner's sugar, salt, and lime juice to the stand mixer and mix on low using the paddle attachment until combined. Turn the speed to med-high until the icing is fluffy. Add the icing to a pastry bag fitted with a 2D tip and ice the cupcakes.

20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My 1st real t-shirt recon!!! :) on: August 02, 2008 04:08:10 PM
I finally got around to reconing a mens XL shirt I found. It's of the little extra life mushroom from Mario Smiley I'm in love with it!!!! Please ignore the bra straps in the back, I forgot that bra had a terrible design in the back, lol - it was switched right after the photos Wink
