11  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / I wanna ROBOT! on: July 10, 2011 10:48:49 AM
So, I've been promising my kid a robot t-shirt for a while now and today he just did NOT want to put on a plain white t-shirt (can't say I blame him).

So what's a mom to do?  I grabbed a handful of sharpies and drew!

Happy Boy in Shirt:

This robot took about 5 minutes from start to finish and it really made my son's day.  He finally got the robot he so desperately wanted and he liked watching me draw it right in front of him.  DH was so impressed he wanted to take the shirt off so our kid could wear it to school tomorrow! Smiley

I hope that you like it!  It was fun to make!
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Steampunk Lady on: July 09, 2010 07:50:23 PM
For the One Tiny Embroidered Thing swap I sent this to my partner!

She's a steampunk kind of gal! She is satin-stitched with back-stitch outline.  French knot buttons on her gown and in her hair doodads.  Silver chain-stitch makes up the draped chains behind her.

She is appliqued onto a coptic stitched journal (also with silver metallic thread.

Please tell me what you think!
13  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing! on: November 30, 2009 08:47:51 PM
I am a lowly beginner with quilting.  To date I've made only one very simple quilt for a sick friend.  For the Mini-Art Quilt swap I have made my first art quilt.

For a partner who loves dance, I made this swinging parallelogram!

I drew the design onto freezer paper, then used it as a pattern to cut my backing and foundation (batting).
I used a "quilt as you go" method of stitching each wedge directly to the foundation and backing.  Heat N Bond is amazing stuff for applique (you still need to secure it with a zigzag or something, but it stays in place while you do that) and Freezer Paper is great for attaching a pattern to fabric for detailed cutting.

I wish I had taken more photos of it before I sent it out, but I was in a hurry to get it in the mail.

C/C welcome!  Please tell me what you think of it!  Thank you!
14  UNITED STATES / Alabama / Huntsville meetup? Who's in? on: August 27, 2009 02:19:07 PM
It's been a while since we've all gotten together.  Who's up for a meetup?  I'll bring the appendage. Smiley

15  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Rocket Rug! on: August 19, 2009 12:27:51 PM
I was out thrifting a few weeks ago and came upon a still sealed latch hook rug kit for this super cool rocket!  I decided that my little boy needed this in his room, so I snatched it up and became a hooking maniac for a few weeks.

Here's the finished rug measuring 18x24 inches.  What do you think?  I feel like a cheater because I used a kit, but it's such a cute design.
16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Little Goth Fairy embroidery on: August 04, 2009 07:38:22 AM
I'm still very much a novice at hand embroidery but I am learning! Smiley

I made this little fairy from a sketch I did years ago (back when big boots were still in fashion and I was young enough to wear them).  I really love the sketch and I've wanted to do something with it for a long time.  Finally the inspiration to turn it into needlework hit me!

It's not fancy, just a backstitch outline, but I like it.  After I finished it, it begged to be put on a zipper pouch, which I did.

I know the flesh color came out too light and disappears on the fabric...any advice on that?

C/C always welcome Cheesy

18  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Who's doing YART SALE this week? on: June 09, 2009 07:50:59 PM
I am (first time for Yart sale here!) - I've decided to go with 20% off ACEOs and free shipping for paintings.

Who else is running a Yart sale?  Have you done it before?  What discounts are you running?
19  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Should I change my Etsy name? on: May 10, 2009 04:51:25 PM
Ok, so I know I can't 'change my name', but should I open a new shop and abandon my old one?

I don't really like my username, and more than once, people have misread it by taking off the first letter...that does NOT fit my style.  So is it worth it to abandon what little feedback I've got to recreate my shop with a newer, nicer name?
20  UNITED STATES / Alabama / Huntsville Meetup - Panoply Edition on: April 17, 2009 07:25:59 AM
Hi all,

Is anyone interested in meeting up at Panoply next weekend?  I was thinking of going on Saturday 4/25, but I'm fairly flexible.  Smiley
