1  help clothe the incredible shrinking saucer head!! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by LindaL28 on: March 04, 2008 04:58:47 PM
here's my first experiment with shrinking the saucer head down a little bit.  (the other two i've posted before but they're just there for scale now to show shrinkage)
i had trouble the first few times because shrinking while keeping the proportion of the saucer head gets tricky for a crochet newb like moi.

(i came across a formula for calculating increases and decreases in a blog about a month ago and can't find it again...if anyone reads this and knows what i'm talking about would you mind posting the link?  thanks!)

he/she is still naked.  i can't decide what to make for clothing.  suggestions needed, solicited, and appreciated!!

so far all i know is he/she has a green grocery bag since the other two got mice.

stay tuned for the next saucer headed ami...

amateur tranvestite cat (with new dress) and overaccessorized bunny go to a taping of the martha stewart show.  hehehe.  i even gave the bunny its own mouse for the occasion.

The first amigurumi I've made that actually looks sort of decent!

the dress is too big but other than that, i'm kind of enjoying it.  i love the UFO sized head.

(the pattern's from Mr. Funky but I changed it a little)

This is amateur transvestite cat with mouse.

...aaaand mainly for my own amusement here is another installment of linda's amigurumi.  man...i still can't used to how difficult it is for me to put these things together.  jeez.  if anyone else has completed any and doesn't want to start their own thread...feel free to post here!  (but be warned that only about 3 people ever read this thread!)

a few more i had a chance to work on.

the actual crochet stitches are not actually a problem for me now (except for the fancy stuff)..it's much more challenging getting the little finishing details right--which is nearly impossible for me, but these little guys crack me up anyway.  i didn't expect that it would take pretty much no time at all to crochet up the bodies, but the attching and embroidery take more time (for me) than the acutal crocheting.  i'm definitely embroidery challenged.

the bird and cats are from angry angels how bazaar thread

the saimaa ringed seal is from torrance's thread
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=165404.0;all
(and here's the wikipedia on the saimaa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saimaa_Ringed_Seal)

the ninja balls are my own pattern, my first! (i know, they're just globes with a pattern, knit in, but exciting for me nonetheless) inspired by little japanese keychains and cell phone charms i've picked up over the years.

i do wish that i'd picked bright colors instead of dusty colors.  the dusty colors might have been ok for other projects but for these amigurumi i wish i'd done them in brights.   so here they are:

Two Messed up cats.  seriously, the faces are so messed up it's funny.

bird--the cats and the bird all turned out about 2.5X larger than angry angel's originals.  hmmm.....

i had to take a picture of it in my hand because this was the first amigurumi i made from a pattern that came out in approximately the same size as the pattern's original.  yippee.  i couldn't quite get the flippers and the tail right but...after a few tries, this was as close as i was able to get.

the poor seal looks wasted.  i guess i would be too if i were on the brink of extinction.

and the ninja balls.  (my favorite because i didn't use a pattern)

thanks to all who take a look at my first projects.

6  My first few amigurumi projects--and a request for advice from a newb. in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by LindaL28 on: February 03, 2008 07:05:01 PM
i completed these guys last week and they've been sitting around waiting to be photographed.
so...my crochet skillz suck a little  (don't be jealous).  i'm working on a few others and have so many questions that i haven't found covered in the NUMEROUS tutorials i've found online across the web.

1.  embroidery-yes, let's talk about the demented eye embroidery going on--you have to wait til the guys are stuffed before they get faces, right?  so how do you hide the ends of the embroidery?  my guys's eyes and beaks are unravelling as we speak...can anyone help out and provide some detailed aid here?

2.  my guts are pouring out-as you can see from one of the pictures, when i decrease then increase--ie at a neck joint (or actually a the bottom of a ball when i'm decreasing (sc 2 tog) to close off a sphere--it creates large holes that are a.) visible and b.) great windows for stuffing to escape.  i've tried switching to a smaller needle, and making my stitches really tight...but at some point, no matter how small the needle, it just won't penetrate a tight stitch.  any advice?

(the color of the bird is also one of the novelty colors i mention here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=225109.0 i honestly never want to see the color again)

and...here are the patterns for my guys (i'm sure they've been posted here before but here they are again anyway)
