4  Craft Swaps / ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED / Re: Pocket Letters Round 3 - CLOSES FRIDAY NIGHT AT 7 PM on: September 12, 2016 01:51:26 PM
My partner and I have very different themes ... most of hers I've never heard of and was concerned at first but some research on her Pinterest board gave me the perfect idea.  Now to get idea turned into pocket letter ...  I'm very excited to see this all come together  Grin

I am intrigued now Krafty_Karasu, what themes did you go for?
I tried to keep my choices pretty tame.  I didn't go for things like Marilyn Manson, YouTube let's players, Todd McFarlane's Spawn.  I'm keeping those for the ATC swap.

1. video games (specifically Skyrim, Silent Hill series, Fatal Frame series, Five Nights at Freddy's series (my faves are Foxy, Mangle, and Springtrap), Kingdom Hearts series, Persona/SMT/Atlus series, Super Mario Bros. 2, God of War series, Alice: Madness Returns, Haunting Ground, Okami series)
2. Halloween/Autumn/candy corn
3. my favorite characters (check my Pinterest)
4. movies/TV/books (check my Pinterest)
5. Japan
6. Sailor Moon (I love them all, but my faves are Sailor Pluto, Sailor Saturn, Sailor Moon, Black Lady, and Mistress 9)
7. Orphan Black (especially Helena, but Alison is cool too because she's crafty! and a total bada$$)
8. Weird America; make an ATC about something weird from where you're from!  live in New Jersey?  make one about the Jersey Devil legend.  Pennsylvania?  make one about Centralia.  Arizona?  make one featuring Coffee Pot Rock.
9. crows/ravens

I figured they were themes that wouldn't be too obscure.  the most obscure thing on there is probably Orphan Black.  after that, the obscurity lies within my lists of video games, characters, movies, TV shows, and books.  but you can at least pick and choose there.  I got a few responses for my Weird America theme in the ATC swap.  I love learning about the paranormal, cryptozoology (Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil, etc.), and mysterious/weird things around the world.  these ATCs then come with little backstories and they give me something to look up on the internet and learn more about.  ooo...here's a good example for around the world; in Japan, there are these Kofun - tombs - that from above, look like giant keyholes.  they can be seen on Google Maps and Google Earth.  Grin

I would be completely stuck on Weird America, but love the Orphan Black idea - although how to pick which clones to feature??  Grin

I would never say no to another altered puzzle round Cheesy

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Seeker
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Sea Glass Gem Tree
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: I was determined to complete all the Quidditch prompts, but I was stumped by Seeker - I was drawing a blank on what to do! I thought I would read it over one last time, to see if inspiration struck and it did. I remembered collecting some pieces of sea glass on a walk with the dog, which I had tucked away somewhere safe, and a stone, with a hole through it, has been sat by my 'puter screen for weeks. But what to do with them?

Well, I made a gem tree, but with sea glass. I have never made a gem tree before, so this was very much an experiment and some of the pieces are a little heavy for the wire I used. I would also use more pieces for a better effect and a thicker trunk - this is more sapling than large oak! But despite all of that, I do love the outcome. I now need to start collecting some more smaller pieces and find another stone Cheesy

Sea glass pieces and the stone

Finished tree (no matter how I took the photo, something was not in focus - sea glass is hard to photo!)

Netchez, that jam looks amazing, but the link doesn't work? Could it be ThriftyDIYDiva.com?

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Cobbing
SPEW: Calais refugee
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Big Scarf
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: This scarf uses excessively thick wool and a very large crochet hook - 12mm! No pattern, I made it up as I went along and finished with three random, large, buttons from my tin. It wraps around once and buttons closed.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quiddith - Referee
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pile of mending cleared  Grin
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: I love sewing, I would choose it over any other craft (of course, only if some evil individual made me choose Smiley), but I hate mending - it is so boring! However, I have cleared my pile - three skirts, 1 to take in, 1 to fix the lining and 1 hole to patch, and 1 dress, where the embroidery needed some ends sewing in.

SPEW: Calais Refugee
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Orange Hat
Project Page Link (if available): http://www.mooglyblog.com/ups-and-downs-crochet-slouchy-beanie/
Brief Description: I am learning new crochet stitches all the time and it takes a while to get the hang of them - this hat included a Foundation Double Stitch, creating a ribbing effect by crocheting into back and front posts, plaiting a quad stitch (the row below each button - you use the button to secure the last stitch) and crocheting into the 'third stitch', which confused me no end! I watched several videos before it sunk in.

Wow, technicolor, so many great projects, but I do love the little elephant painting, so adorable. And those cookies look yummy.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Quidditch - Keeper; House Unity
SPEW: Calais refugee
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: First crochet scarf
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: The keeper prompt talks about sitting still for hours, well due to the fact I have only been crocheting since Christmas, I crochet really slowly! This has taken me about 2 hours an evening for the last week!! I am now planning to stay away from scarfs crocheted on the length, it doesn't feel like it is growing quickly enough!

No specific pattern, I used bits from about 4 different patterns and then the frill came from a tutorial. The house unity is because it is in Slytherin colours (although the green is a little light  Undecided). This is going off to noodle-bug to go to Calais with her.
