1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / embroidered pillow on: March 10, 2008 08:01:51 AM
This is a pillow I made for my mother for her bday. She is really into meditation ( has been since I was in HS, 15 yrs), and is an avid reader of books by the vietnamese buddist monk, Thich Naht Hahn. He illustrates his books with beautiful calligraphy that incoporate his philosophies. So, I made a patchwork pillow- then added a panel that I had embroidered with one of these illustrations. It says "peace is every step"

Sorry for the bad photos. I really need a new digi camera.

Thanks for looking.

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / needlepoint repros of collective paintings- pic heavy on: March 09, 2008 08:56:05 AM
In the city where I live there are several "art collectives"- where people get together regularly and make art together. I take part in one of these. Since my love of craft is equal to my love of art (and part of the groups manifesto is that is really ALL art anyway...)- I took small parts of different paintings and reproduced them in needlepoint. When we showed, my pieces were dispalyed alongside of the paintings. They were mounted on wood to be hung. They got a great response and most actually sold. Luckily- I got photos of most.

Thanks for looking- have a nice Sunday.

This one is called "brothers." It was the most popular. So much so that I ended up reproducing it twice more to sell.

This one is "butter." It is my favorite, mostly because of all the work I put into it.

This is "urinal." It is made from a photo of a urinal that one of the collective members painted on a nightclub wall next to a real urinal.(The group was in the club painting the backdrops for a play that was being put on there- the urinal eventually was painted over. boohoo)

This is a embroidery of the collectives 'mascot'- fleshy the elephant. Yes, he resembles male anatomy, but cute nonetheless.

Again, thanks for looking.

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Chinese New Year quilted banner- year of the rat. (3 photos) on: February 15, 2008 07:36:55 AM
This is my first ever post. I made this as a decoration for my meditation groups NY celebration.

I am so inspired by everything I see here. It has really gotten me off my duff and creating again. I am working towards a Masters- but whatever time I have left over after school work is pretty much devoted to making something or other. So, I'm sure this won't be the last you'll hear from me.

Thanks for looking- have a great weekend!

This is a close up of the stitch work. My camera is crummy, so forgive poor photo quality.

This is the quilting on the reverse- recycled denim skirt. I try to use what I have around the house as much a possible- instead of buying new. Partly out of principle, partly because I'm a penny-pincher.

Again, thanks for looking! Grin
