I bought a pattern for slippers to make for DH. The pattern is for a men's size 9. DH wears a 13.  Embarrassed I don't know why I didn't ask the seller... but I'm wondering about adjusting. The pattern calls for making the sole first and then working up & over the foot. Is it as simple as just making the sole big enough for his foot and then following the pattern (adjusting as I go)?

I would just grab a small hook and start crocheting in the round. Experiment with increasing with each round. You could also use a pattern designed for a child and use a very small hook and a finer yarn than what the pattern calls for (try sock weight yarn).

I know it's possible to do a duplicate stitch with knitting, but is it possible to do it with crocheting?

Definitely look for non-traditional locations. Plus, you can still have it on your anny- Sundays are usually cheaper! Just have a late morning/midday ceremony & an afternoon reception and people can be on their way home at a reasonable time for Monday morning (although, this is an excellent time for a vacation/sick day!) June is tough, though. I got lucky and the place we're getting married at (a community owned farm $1500 for Friday-Monday) had a cancellation about a week before I called.
