i needle felted these using a silicone ice cube tray from ikea as a mold. i wasn't sure how it would work, but it was super easy.

3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / felt french press cozy tutorial link, feedback welcome! on: October 20, 2008 11:17:24 AM

i created a tutorial for how to make a felt french press cozy and posted it on my blog.

http://feltcafe.blogspot.com/2008/10/felt-french-press-cozy-tutorial.html

it uses traditional direct or wet felting (wool, soap, hot water, and friction), and is fairly straight forward.

i would say it's an advanced beginner level projectperfect for someone who has already tried making some flat pieces of felt and is ready to try something a little bigger and/or more precise. the advanced beginner skills that are introduced are how to make a cut and felted edge, and how to work a little bigger, using netting or other additional tools like a bamboo mat or bubble wrap.

if any more experienced felters have any suggestions or critiques, i would love to hear them, thanks!

hi everyone,
i've been lurking forever, but wanted to come out of the shadows and say hello. thanks for this wonderful resource!  i've been wet felting for a few years, but just started needle felting--being in japan was the final motivation i needed.  i am really excited about the potential to combine these two techniques.  here's my first project:
