CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern help
|

Hello! I have always been in love with the old Halston Grecian dresses, but like so many of us I don't have the money for one. I love this style but I like it a bit longer, this was what I was thinking (VERY quick drawing, I usually do better) So my question is, how do I pattern it? Mainly the long side, I don't really want to go half nekkid! Would it be doing two layers? Should I sew the side beneath the arm hole? Please advise!!!

CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Winter Coat
|

I'm planning on making my own winter coat this year, which is a bit ambitious as I've never done anything like that. This is the drawing I made (please excuse quality, my software is crap) My intention is to make it in a nice boucle in reds, with a contrasting lining, since the collar folds down and the sleeves are open and you can see the inside: Exterior Lining I need some advice regarding pattern drafting and also, I've never lined a coat. Any advice on that?

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Those days when you're feeling blue....

So, you know how there are days when you feel oh-so-blue, and you need cheering up? that happened to me. I was having major money problems, love problems, etc, and i needed some cheering up... When i suddenly remembered! I have some butterfly fabric! it's a bit too cheesy to wear as is, specially in winter, as it's super thin fabric, so I made a crinoline! It's so fun to wear! and it really cheered me up!

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Winter cape

Soooo, watching Threadbangers one day, I fel in love with Corrine's cape, which is from here: http://www.enderbydesigns.com/apparel.php... BUT, I wanted sleeves. I had an old checked skirt (way too small) and I wanted to use that, but there was't enough fabric in it, so I pulled out my box of odds and ends and found some brown corduroy, and an idea appeared! I searched for a pattern that I could at least adapt some and foud this: http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/2669. So, I basically took of the collar and cuffs, made the front less wide and in two pieces, and started to sew them up. I drafted my own peter pan collar (came out a bit wonky), and when I was about to put it on, I realized it was too short, so I took the waistband from the skirt, which was also brown cord, and basted it on I don't know what I did wrong, but in the end the collar was just fine Anywho, it came out with I much wider neck than I wanted, but that's cool and here it is: (excuse my very messy sewing area)

Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 32 ENTRIES / First from-scratch Witch costume

Ok, I almost always go as a Witch, using clothes I already have, but this year I wanted to do a complete costume, so I drew this: And this is how it came out: (Please forgive the weird face, I don't really like having my pic taken) So, Basically I made the corset from scratch, following Roethke's tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=122286.msg1177367#msg1177367. I also made the skirt with my new ruffler (BTW, does anybody else get massive headaches when using a ruffler?), then I got an old, pirate-type shirt and cut it down for the bolero, but it was too wide, so I ruffled the back, and then I made some spats as I couldn't find any boots I like. The hat is black felt, reinforced with thin cardbord and coverd is black fabric, it didn't really come out like I wanted, maybe next year. please tell me what you think, I'll try to get some pics done of each part this week, as my photograper was lazy. Just to add one thing. I wanted each part of the costume to be something I could later wear to go out partying any given day, I think I achieved that!

Halloween / Halloween Costumes / This year's project
|
on: October 08, 2008 03:49:39 AM

This year I'm going as a Witch (actually, I almost ALWAYS go as a witch), but I wanted to make it a really nice one this time, so there's my idea. The corset is one I'm making out of corduroy, following Roethke's tute ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=122286.0). The bolero i'm planning on reconstructing a mans black dress shrit, and for the skirt, i'm going to bye tons of flimsy black things from Salvation army, and use that. I'll be posting photos of my progress, I'd love any comments!
